Canon 5D Mk2...i think i got it

this camera is the dogs wobbly bits
i have just placed another order for one & he has promised delivery for next week...we shall see

Any good? If you don't know why its any good before the reviews are out then its probably not for you. Canon and Nikon don't really make bad cameras. You buy the one with the features you need or want and off you go. I'd suggest you go back to that thread and read it, and then look at whats out and what features you need. Do you need iso25,600? Do you need 1080p video? 3.9fps? Full frame? 21mp? I mean seriously, do you need 21mp? ...EDITED...

I thought one of the earlier top-of-the range Canon's suffered from major problems when it first came out? It's not such a stupid question at all.:shake:

Yes the 1Dm3 had focus issues which was fixed. Is there a chance its not a good camera, yes of course but its very remote imho. But he asked if it was any good. Any good for what? Any good at sports? Any good in low light? Any good in the real world? Any good on paper? Any good for...? IMHO ...Edited...

my 5d mk2 has been dispatched apparently coming by DHL standard delivery 3-5 days so may have it by saturday i hope.....im itching

Thread cleaned ;)

Pete and russ....ignore each other.... :)

I genuinely found that last remark to be quite funny ....

Just a shame your other posts in this thread were not in the same vane.

Yer my others were me trying to help, really shouldn't do that. Some were even discussing a camera I bought. Man, I'm such a moron for thinking this thread was a good place to discuss it.

FFS. I'm sorry but I am genuinely trying to help someone who doesn't seem to have a clue of what camera he wants. Of course its going to get personal when I'm talking to a sole person. I asked him some questions... *sigh* Yes its a good camera, just like the 50mp Hassleblad is a good camera and just as the Canon Ixus is a good camera. Buy them all as they're good cameras and well thats what the guy wanted.

I fully understand your intentions (and agree with them)....but we both know where the thread will end up. Russ will reply to you in a way that makes no sense to you, you'll end up replying sarcastically while banging your head in frustration on a brick wall, and we have to come back in to calm the waters....so it's best to not to even go there ;)

Amazon have dropped the price to £1895.85, but still saying 2-4 weeks

Wha? Those harpies. Why are they dropping the price on something no-one can barely stock? Thats only going to cause more people to pre-order and get annoyed with delayed shipments.

Amazon have dropped the price to £1895.85, but still saying 2-4 weeks

Presumably then the pre-order I have originally at £1999 will be reduced to £1895? My order with them shows as delivery estimate 18-29 Dec.

I placed another pre-order with someone else who has had assurance they will have a delivery by the 15th and they will get one to me by the 16th! (£1925) but one never knows with Canon eh?!

I agree with Pete though, they will be deluged by new-orders. Why not just take it off until stocks start coming through.

I managed to get an order in with Amazon.co.uk for £1889 (gone up again soon)

Still no sign of anything from RGBTech.

had an Email informing me that mine is being dispatched on monday & i should have it in my sweaty little mits by thursday....payment has been taken off my card so i can only assume it will be here next week

Looks like possible image issues with black dots around bright highlights.

Make of it what you will

(Link sourced from another forum, but lots of other info around on this)

LOL. Here we go again. Actually there is clearly an issue - black dots adjacent to bright points of light which seems to get worse as the ISO increases. You need to download the full file to see it best and it took about 10 minutes on my 20mb connection.

Possibly a firmware fix I'd imagine, but Canon do seem to like shooting themselves in the foot.

LOL. Here we go again.

I'm only passing on information that i found.

If what i am reading is correct it is a hardware (Sensor) issue, but they may be able to filter the effects out with PP in camera

Quite right too, I'd want to know about it if I was in the market for one, although I don't think I'd be unduly concerned at this early stage.

Still no sign of anything from RGBTech.

This is on RGB tech site when you click the 5D MKII

HI ALL

SOME OF YOU MAY BE AWARE THAT CAMERAS ARE NOW SHIPPING AND AMOUNTS ARE VERY SMALL.

CANON ARE NOT GIVING ANY INDICATION OF AVAILABILITY, AND AS SUCH WE DO NOT HAVE ANY IDEAS WHEN CAMERAS WILL ARRIVE.
I KNOW IT IS DIFICULT, BUT DUE TO THE HUGE DEMAND FOR US TO SUPPLY THIS PRODUCT, THE EARLIEST WE EXPECT ANY REAL VOLUME OF STOCK IS NEXT YEAR. AND EVEN THEN, IT COULD TAKE CANON A LONG TIME TO CATCH UP WITH DEMAND.

I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND, WE DO NOT WANT TO LET PEOPLE DOWN OR GIVE FALSE HOPE.

THANK YOU

GRAEME DEWING

It looks like a classic case of a rounding error gone wrong to me which may or may not be easy to solve. If it's in the firmware then it should be a simple fix, if it's in the hardware then it might be tricky to solve with a filter without also getting false positives :(

Cold comfort I know but the problem does seem limited to small over-exposed areas so the impact on a wedding/portrait/landscape tog would be minimal.

they are starting to appear on Ebay now....item number 110322142690

You mean that. Still £150 over Play and I'd prefer to buy from a company I imagine will be around in 12 months.

I haven't seen it on any of my images yet, but looking pxl8's info looks like it'll be fixed in firmware fairly easily.

Having seen a few issues from various camera (Nikon D70s moire, D200 banding, D700 high ISO banding) this doesn't bother me at all. Certainly no plans to cancel my pre-order.

I imagine most RAW converters will simply map out these dots, as they do hot pixels right now.

well this friday is the day...being delivered by DHL i have been promised

Well, I cancelled my pre-order. Haha! Thats right Canon!

I agree, if that's all that's 'wrong' with the MK2 I'm still in, although I'm also still waiting for the price to drop a bit.

A 'flawless' digital camera from any brand is the very definition of vapourware.

Mine now been changed to tuesday delivery instead of tomorrow
I'm gonna cancel if this gets changed again.
