Hi,
please, please can anyone help!
I have been using my Canon 5D, with settings on Raw, loading it into photoshop and have been able to process it with no problems.

I now have a Canon 5D MK2, and I did a presentation evening for a junior football club, but when I treid to open my Raw files (freom the 5DMK2) it says it cant open them as its "the wrong file"???

I imported the pictures into Lightroom (which I cant use) to show people the pictures, could it be anything to do with this???

Do i need some different software to open the raw from the 5Dmk2 in photoshop?

I have about 150 pictures of 7 to 8 year olds who are all relying on me to produce their pictures!!

Thanks, Mel :bonk::bonk::bonk::bang::bang:

I don't believe CS2 is compatible with the 5dMKII.

You can export as jpg from iPhoto if you use that (think you can get that on a pc too). Just select the pics and choose export from the menu bar.

DPP that came with the camera will do the job (if you can't get cs2 to work)

I am in the same boat. Anything before CS4 will not recognise CR2 files from the Mk2. What I did is downloaded the DNG converter (free) from Adobe. A bit of extra work, but
PS2 and 3 will then recognise your files. I think that DNG will be the standard one day with both Canon and Nikon etc............hopefully?

export your files that you want to work with as dng files from Lightroom and then you will be able to view in CS2. Do all your 'RAW' alterations in LR first.

Hi Mel.
As others have pointed out, Adobe have a nasty habit of making newer versions of Camera RAW incompatible with older versions of Photoshop.
Then, you find that the version of Camera RAW which supports your new body will not play with your (older) version of Photoshop.
I can only imagine that Adobe are trying to force you to upgrade your PS to the latest version (till ringing - again).
You have two options - if you don't want to give Adobe your money.
Use Canon's DPP which came free with your body or...
Use Adobe's free DNG converter.
If rumour is to be believed, DNG will eventually prove a more lasting archive format than CR2 anyway. Beware of file size with DNG though. If you choose to use it as a wrapper for the CR2 file, the size will increase significantly.

5D2 isn't supported in either CS3 or CS4 and can't be made to unfortunately.

I was in the same boat and had to go to CS4 and updates to get it to work.

You can use lightroom to import the pictures (it's really worth running through a few web tutorials and using this), then once the pics are in, right click, edit in photoshop.

If you go into Lightroom, Edit menu, Preferences, external editing, you can setup how you want the pics to import. Mine is set to PSD, ProPhoto RGB, 16 bit.

THe DNG converter should be able to get CS2 to work I think? Search the adobe site for details.

I've got CS4 and it doesn't recognise my CR2 files from the Canon 5D Mark II? I'm confused! The new Camera Raw 5.7 doesn't work on CS4 apparently?

UPDATE - sorry, I'm fixed now

Mel,

I'd persevere and look at using Lightrooom, then if you want, take the images into Photoshop. I used to open files direct in Photoshop, until my friends persuaded me to try Lightroom - it is a very amazing program at a good price, plus it acts as a nice library to sort and file all your pictures. I still use Photoshop on my images afterwards for colour grading / calibration and sharpening (I have some nice FredMiranda plugins that I love using in Photoshop) but alot of the work happens in Lightroom which saves hours - really, you should take a good look at it :)

I use CS4 and ACR works fne with the 5D II files I have (a friend uses it and I used it at a wedding and have the RAWs on my system).
