Canon 5D ( Mk I ) questions.

Just out of interest, but has anyone made the move from the Mk I to the Mk II and how does it compare? If it is much better, I may see if I can stretch to the Mk II?

i came really close to buying the MKII a few weeks ago. Whilst I don't question the camera's ability and awesomeness, I felt it didnt offer me too much more over the MK I to warrant the extra 1000's I needed to spend (just my opinion!)

Bare in mind that the MKII may require subsequent purchases... faster computer to handle the larger raw files it produces, extra hdd, larger/more memory cards.. so all in all I opted to stick with the MKI.

But it is still a beautiful piece of kit, and sometimes do regret not getting it!

I think the MKII is a big step up from the MkI. High ISOs are miles better, but in lower ISO use I find the higher resolution just makes a huge difference. The dynamic range seems quite a bit larger on the MkII and tonal gradation is lovely too.

Best

as promised, here is a picture of the mirror after the upgrade was done. I have edited the picture to highlight the plastic clips/housing, so you should have an idea of what to look for when buying a 2nd hand 5D. hope this helps, i would hate for another tog to go through what I did!

yes, i know there is a fibre/thread in there. if my stupid flat werent so cold, i wouldnt have to huddle up inside a blanket just to stay warm and drop fibres from it inside the camera. :gag:

Thanks very much for taking the time to post this. I defo need the fix on mine then.

:lol:I was fond of my 5D, but not enough to snuggle up with it!

I've gone from a 30D with 24-70mm f2.8 EX DG to a 5D with 24-70mm f2.8.

I love it, full frame is fantastic. Think I was spoiled by film cameras though!

I only use the centre focus point so have 45+ focus points isn't an issue for me. Like others have said, the LCD isn't the best in the world but that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

IQ is fantastic, that's what counts to me.

High ISO seems pretty good to me, problem is it get compared to cameras that are much newer... that isn't really fair! Of course the MK2 is better, if it wasn't there would be no point to it :-)

so... go buy one! I just need to learn how to use it with my Metz 54-4i

It's all good fun!!!
