I have just bought a second hand canon 5d mrk II ...but the guy who was selling it was all fingers and thumbs...and managed to put his finger inside the camera and pop out the focus screen, he has put it back but now i have finger prints on it..can it be cleaned ?....over to you ?

The focus screen on the 5d2 is removable and replaceable.. So if that's where the fingerprints are - then yes they can be cleaned.. Usually replacement focus screens come with a little removal tool.. Did you get one?

Assuming it's like my 5D... yes, you can take it out and clean it.

They are quite delicate and it might be worth buying another one but if you want to try cleaning it first you could just take it out and rinse it in warm water and blow it dry with a rocket blower. I've done this many many times without issue, never had to use any cleaning fluids yet either but with a finger print you might need to.

yeah ..got one on order, but was debating if to try and clean the old one first ..but thought chemicals might make it worse..

hoping the one i have ordered comes with the replacement tool ....

Yup, my fear too plus they are easily marked... so I've always just used running warm water with no probs.

ok...i will try the walm water way....but gonna have to dry it with a hair dryer on cold blow..fingers crossed........

did`nt give it a thought ...just ordered a standard replacement......:-(

Never tried, but maybe a drop of sensor cleaning fluid on a swab might work, not likely to do any harm

cool.........i will try the walm water first if not....go to plan B:cleaning fluid.....if neither dont work i will let you know.......

If you're going to rinse it under the tap, some mild detergent will get rid of the greasy fingerprint. Seriously! I'd rinse it in distilled water to make sure you don't get any chalky residue, although I imagine you'll be drying it off immediately.. use something like a pec-pad to wipe it dry.

A.

thanks...plan on drying it with a hair dryer on cool........

oh well im going to have to wait till i get the new one first...i cant get hold of the removal tool untill them....

i know i can get it pout without it.........but putting it back is the problem....

Use your Other half's eyebrow tweezers that's all the tool really is.

If it has a fingerprint on it it's nearly impossible to remove them anyway.

I scratched mine trying to clean it and ended up with one with a grid on it which is far superior to the standard one.

There is a little tab that should be held by the removal tool.

To put it back, tilt the camera at an angle so the focus screen holder is flat, then put about half of the focus screen on, and gently push it into place. Now you can straighten the camera and close the holder.

Where did you order a replacement? how much was it? there is a mark on my screen, it's slightly bothersome, but I think it's only worth £15 to sort it out.

They're on ebay from £14.99.

Mine's had a mark on it since I got the camera, I've never bothered to replace it as I always thought I'd wait until it picked up other marks.

I have taken the focus screen out with a pair of tweezers and tried the walm water thing, it has cleaned it a bit but there is a scratch on the screen which wont budge, even tried some lenses cleaner but it made no difference...the new one from our local store was £30.00 should be there tomorrow...its a doddle to change sounds a lot worse than it really is.....but need to be really carefull with tweezers as they will scratch the screen,as the tool that comes with the screen is plastic

yeah....not a good time to sneeze....lol i think the trick is hold the tab and dont let it move from that....
