Hi Guys,

Just wondering if any of you have any experience with both the 5d classic and the 7d.

I have just purchased a 5dmkiii and I am now looking at selling both of my 5d classics to fund for a 7d (and hopefully get some change :) )

I thought the 7d being much newer etc would blow the 5d classic out the water, but the few bits I have found online say the 5d classic will beat it for image quality etc.

Any views would be greatly appreciated

Gary

I shot a 5Dc and a 7D alongside each other for a day last year.

End results... the 5D held it's own against the 7D up to about ISO1600... 5D had better IQ at lower ISO's but the 7D was better up the scale. Even then there really was not very much in it - certainly not enough that I could tell the shots apart unless I looked at the exif.

I preferred using the 7D though, the 5Dc felt very clunky

Did the "bits" online not tell you that the 5Dc and 7D are intended for different purposes?

I have both bodies. I guess it depends what you are using them for, but I've used both bodies in the studio and around the house. Not hit a wedding with the 5Dc yet, so worried about the focusing.
In terms of IQ, I don't think there's a huge difference, but the 5D images do seem to have that certain something over the 7's.
High ISO shots from a personal experience pov, I find the 5D files clean up slightly better at 1600/3200.
My main issue with the 5D is the rear screen. It's pretty much useless at showing what an image looks like, so I've learned to not rely on it too much.
