I am looking at buying a Canon 5D as a second body to go with my 50D. The body is second hand and comes with 12 months warranty so comfortable with the purchase.

Is there anything i should know or be aware of with these? Are there any issues which should be sorted or may come in the future?

I have played with the camera and it is fantastic - the body has just been services, it is UK supplied and nigh-on immaculate.

Any personal responses appreciated.

Many Thanks

There has been a recent problem come to light; the mirror assembly bonding can lose its adhesion, so Canon have recently said any affected units should be sent back to them for repair free of charge..

Other than that, no other know issues IIRC :)

I've had my 5D since Oct '06 and had no problem with it at all in the 2 and a bit years of ownership. Also from what I've heard there's not much that goes wrong with them apart from what markta mentioned :)

If you're used to the LCD on the 50D, you'll find the one on the 5D a real let down....

And it really bugs me that the auto-bracketing switches itself off after every lens change. It's a 4 or 5 button sequence to switch it on again. But perhaps you don't use AEB....

If something, or some function, doesn't seem right initially when using, check the custom functions as they can catch new users out.

Cheers for the advice guys. If I don't take it to give you a heads us there is one available in Jacobs Birmingham secondhand for £800 - looks like new with 12months guarantee!

You'll also need to check your lens collection - any crop sensor specific lenses will not work with the 5D

... and the others will still work, but not in the same way. Your 24-105L will start to seem really quite wide, but your 70-200 won't seem as long as you're used to.

I have got some good L Glass and my 10-20 would still work on the 50D so all good here!
