canon 550d

hi im new to photography and i just bought the canon 550d with the 18-55mm kit lens, does anyone have any advice or tips for me to gaet started? thanks

Hi Vicky

Best advice is read the manual and familiarise yourself with your new camera (excellent choice in my opinion) then go out and take some pictures.

P mode is a decent start rather than full auto, get to change some settings and you can then see what difference things like aperture and shutter speed make

Most of all enjoy it and don't worry too much, it all falls into place over time and remember its meant to be fun that's why you spent all that money.

Hi vicky, i recently bought a 550d and am still getting used to it.. I'd definitely agree with giving the manual a good going over! The thing I'm realising isthat i kinda read too many mags/ forums lol... And getting myself out in different environments with the camera has been the best Learning tool yet, with the answers to any questions being found on here


Have a look round to make sure ** happy with the baisics and go from there!

I am fairly new to photography too (last few months) after having bought the 550d with kit lens. As others have said, one of the most helpful things I did was read the manual! I also read this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Understanding-Exposure-3rd-Photographs-Camera/dp/0817439390 which taught me so much. Seriously, if you are new to photography, I cannot recommend this book enough!

i have read most of the manual now but i have read alot of mags and forums too
mostly im playing about with trail and error
