Canon 550d w/ 18-55 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens Kit - £464 delivered.

Literally just posted about this! :)

I'm concerned by just how much cheaper it is than Amazon themselves and most other 'know' retailers, and that it would in fact be a grey import rather than a proper UK model.

Hey Speedbird, how did you get on with the camera. Was it a grey import?

I haven't got it yet!

That said, it was always due to have a fairly long delivery time. I believe the latest date specified was 28th March. I'm happy with that though, I'm in no rush if the deal is right.

I did get an invoice from the company selling it though, and it explicitly says Canon 550d (as opposed to T2i or KISS etc). That might not mean an awful lot, but I'll update the thread when it arrives!

Well well, it did in fact turn out too good to be true.

I sent an email enquiring about the expected delivery date, and received an email back saying it had been 'lost in the post.' How on earth they could know this (having sent me a dispatch notice last week) I don't know.

Either way they're going to refund me. I'm not concerned given that it was done through Amazon marketplace and is therefore covered by Amazon's guarantee - so if there are any issues with the refund I'll just go through Amazon.

A bit of a pain, but never mind.

Full refund given with no problems!

Right then.....time to buy it somewhere else.

try Ian at Flash Cameras, or £511 at jacobs as they have 5% off if you order on line, use spring5 as offer code.

Hi I emailed Ian and got prices for the 550D which were sub £500 with the lens you are after, what I did not get was the postage cost. Which when you compare to the jacobs price there was not a big difference.

Hi guys.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up taking a walk down to Jacobs and picked up the 550d and a Lowepro Revo 140AW case for £535. I think I've done pretty well there.

The only thing he wouldn't come down on is a memory card - the cheapest Sandisk SDHC Class 10 was £19.99 (8gb), and given that I can get it on play.com for £8.99 the choice was obvious.

I effectively got a third off the case though - shows you can haggle!

Yes, thats the place

Not sure if Ian does the 550D though ?

that's Ian Kerr aka kerso isnt it ? - he can get most canon items

Yes, but the 550D wasn't showing on his web earlier, that's why I wasn't sure if he had it in stock

Excellent, seems like a good price. Just get your cards ordered now.
