I am considering purchasing a new Canon DSLR. I have narrowed down my selection to either the 550D or the 600D but am having difficulty in making a decision.

Initially I thought that the 600D was a 550D with a few extra features and perhaps a few bugs sorted out. But the evidence is confusing. The 550D has won numerous awards whereas the 600D has won nothing. The 550D consistently scores higher (average 4.5 stars) in both professional and user reviews than the 600D (average 3.5 stars). And lastly, my local photography shop guru recommends the 550D over the 600D - which is hard to understand as the 600D is more expensive.

I would be very grateful to receive the views of Forum members who have experience of both cameras and can provide a qualified viewpoint as to which camera is the better buy.

I had the same decision and bought the 600D for my son. I wouldn't worry about the awards etc as the 600d hasn't been out very long. The 600d has afew more features, some extra video features and the tilty screen and wireless flash control built in and only a little more money.

I am considering buying the 600D at the end of this week. There isn't much difference between the 550D and the 600D but i am sick of having to either lie flat on the ground or stand on objects to get the composition i want because i have to look through the viewfinder. The tilty lcd screen will be a big help plus the wireless flash control. I cant wait to use it.

Well worth the extra bit of money IMO.

Which is why I bought the 600d over the 550d this week :)

Having had a quick look here http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/cat1.html for what appears to be an extra £50, I'd agree with the above and buy the 600D.

A good friend recently bought the 60D (for the extra FPS) over his 450D and he loves the tilty / swivel screen - you can also reverse it in the body when not in use, so protecting it from scratches

I got a 550D just before the 600D was released. I dont regret it at all, the 550D is a terrific camera for the money and has given me some fantastic photos. However, if I knew I could have all that plus the wireless flash, the articulating screen and the other extras for an extra £50 or so then I'd have to go with the 600D. Not really had a problem with composing on the 550D though, not to the point of needing the 600D's screen.
