Hi all!

Would appreciate some advice please! I'm looking to buy a Canon 550d in the next couple of weeks, but I am slightly hesitant in that I really don't need the level of video that it offers.

Is there an equivalent model out there in terms of specs for photos, poss at around the same price or cheaper but without the focus on the video side of things?

Thank you

Chris

If it's Canon you want then what about the 500D - still has the video capability should you choose to use it but is a formidable camera. I can't comment on Nikon as I don't know their product line up.

In case you're going to buy the camera used the price difference is not much between the 500D and 550D so you can just go for the slightly more expensive one and oyu can always enjoy the better video instead of at some point upgrading the camera for this sole reason :)

Pentax K-r, no video, but excellent image quality and low light capability

I was in the same boat as you.

These are the results from my procrastinations :)

The 500d was not much different to the 450d, so the 450d owners waited for the 550d. All are superb cameras, and produce stunning results.

I however went for the A55, the reasons were the focusing in video mode. (i'm a multimedia student) Also as I'm on a tight budget, the availability of the Minolta lenses for the Sony A mount made my mind up. The in body IS has bought life to these quality lenses. I now have a mid eighties beercan (70-210 F4) and an 18mm F2.8.

I owned a Nikon 3100 and the image and video were excellent for a budget slr. Loads of choice and researching is half the fun. Also the choice you make will prolly make you loyal to your chosen camera. You keep the lenses and change the body is the normal

Good luck :)
