Hi everyone I'm new here

I just thought I'd see if anyone could help me with a problem I have.
I have recently bought a Canon 550D for studio work, I'm not a professional.
I previously used a Samsung GX-20 which was very easy to use and I used a Elinchrom Prolinca IR tigger to set off my Elinchrom D-lites

Now I am using the Canon 550D I cannot seem to get the lights to trigger at all when the Prolinca trigger is attached to the Canon's hotshoe.
The D-lites will trigger if I press the orange button on top of the trigger but if I take a photo nothing happens at all

It is becoming very frustrating and I'm not sure if the Prolinca is not compatible with the Canon 550d and whether I should just by another trigger

If anyone can shed any light or help it really would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Prolinca IR trigger works fine in any hot shoe. Unless it's faulty, most likely problem is a dodgy contact in the hot shoe. Check everything, clean it, and make sure the Prolinca is properly seated.

I have the same thing with my D300S. If I mount the trigger back-to-front it works fine, so the hotshoe connection on the D300S is not making contact with the trigger in the usual position

Mine works OK with a cable linking the two but I might unscrew the foot of the trigger and move the contact over to the correct point for the D300S

I think the problem is likely to be 1 of 2 related things...
1. There is poor hotshoe contact. This is a common problem with some Canon models, the pins don't seem to stick out far enough to make a reliable contact.
2. You've overtightened the locking nut on the IR trigger, which causes the contact area to 'arch' and breaks the contact - try slackening it off, or not tightening it at all.
