canon 550 ex speedllite wont change from ttl to ettl?

I have three canon speedlites 550ex. The two of them are working fine but the third one has displayed on the screen ttl instead of ettl. Any ideas how I change it to ETTL

When I press the mode button it switches from TTL to M to Multi where as the other two camers switch from ETTL to M to Multi.

Any ideas?:cuckoo:
 
It only displays that if it thinks it is connected to an old camera - if you put it on the hotshoe and shoot in ETTL mode (in the camera) does it switch to ETTL? Failing that try giving the contacts on the foot a clean and/or pressing it down.
 
Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the flash? Might be communicating wrongly.
 
Thanks guys I turned it off for a few hours as it was doing my head in. Turned it off and now works fine- weird!
