Canon 550 aperture wheel

I hope people understand what I mean, the wheel that turns to change aperture or shutter speed - still turns but has no effect.
Any idea how to fix this?
 
Hmm!

  1. Do you have grip attached
    If so does the control wheel then work OK, when the grip is removed?

  2. Have you tried to taking out the battery a few minutes to see if that resets the camera?

  3. Can you access the Menu and do a "Factory Reset"?
I have read of other folks having the wheel fail to actuate any changes...........................hang on I think one said "you have not got it in Auto, have you?" Edit ~ I see @GarethB beat me to this one before I posted ;)

That is the fast useful response I have ever got.
I tried two and it is now working!!
 
This may sound obvious, but have you checked your mode dial?
It might have been accidentally nudged into auto which will lock out any aperture/shutter adjustment.
I've done it myself many times!:facepalm:
Thank you it was not that saying that, it is always worth checking this.
