Canon 55-250mm vs 18-55mm focusing speed

Is this normal that 55-250mm IS lens is waaay slower than 18-55mm IS lens ?
Just got 2nd hand 55-250mm today and it was a bit confusing ...

Im not best qualified to answer, but that just sounds plain wrong to me. The 55-250mm IS seems to be a highly regarded lens from what i've read.
Is the 55-250 not USM aswell?

55-250 IS not USM

Well, on the daylight it works faster
Maybe just my paranoia lol

Shouldnt be slower than the 18-55 kit lens.

Never had an issue with mine in that regard, even on full burst mode on the 50D. That said, its the same as any f4-5.6 lens in low light!
