After some researching on here today i set my mind on a sigma 70-300mm but came across a few posts stating that pics become a bit soft after 200mm..... so the search carried on.

Then coming across the Canon 55-250mm IS lens which give sharp images at 250mm but yet again another thread cropped up with pics from a sigma 70-300mm which to me looked spot on ( but im new to this game )

Anywhoooo can users of the lenses please post some pictures here for comparison, would be a great help.

Thanks
Scud

Hi Scud,

Like you, I was planning on getting a 70-300 APO sigma lens, then I noticed the 55-250 IS.

After reading this post below, I settled on the Canon 55-250IS. My thinking is that if I need the extra 50mm, I could always sell the IS canon lens, as these seem quite desirable right now.

Just wondering, do you think it would be a fairer comparison to look at the canon 75-300 F4-5.6 vs the Canon 55-250 F4-5.6 IS instead, as these are similarly priced?

I ordered my 55-250is today, so hopefully it'll be here soon. Looking forward to it.

HTH,

Chris.

I have the 55-250mm IS and it is amazing for the price.
Punches well above its weight and sharp from 55 to 250.

I tried the Canon 70-300 against the 55-250, and couldn't see £150+ difference, even with with the extra 50mm, so have the 55-250 and am very happy with that.

My 55-250IS arrived this morning. Awesome service from Kerso!

just gotta go shopping to get a CF card and a bag, and I'll be snapping away all weekend!

I had a look on Kersos ebay shop and these weren't on there.

pm Kerso if you need stuff, he usual has more than is on eBay, and you tend to get a better price also.

Thanks Barbs..

Chris can you pm me the price for this lens, i found it on onestop digtal for 155 which is the cheapest as of yet.

Cheers

Its been out of stock for ages with one stop digital. Apparently there is supossed to be a world shortage, canon can't keep up with demand.

I know what you mean about these lenses as id set my sight on the sigma 70-300 until i then saw a read up about the canon 55-250 so i was then thinking which to go for and im now leaning towards the canon due to the IS it comes with

seen lots of shots from the 55-250IS and I have one myself. It's a no brainer over the Sigma 70-300

Thats a cracking shot there m8

Just had my new 55-250 delivered, well pleased with it so far, good VFM ! Regards Damian. :)

PS Mine came from camerabox.co.uk as well, good delivery time.

I had mine yesterday from camerabox, just waiting for the rain to b****r off now

Dear All,

I really appreciate for all comments. I was confusing between these 2 lenses but now I decided and bought Canon 55-250mm. I don't mind lost for 50mm I just care about for IS performance and I will get it on following days. Once I get it, I'll test and revert the result. Thanks.

I had the Sigma 70-300 APO and sold it for the Canon 55-250 IS. Well worth it. For the IS if nothing else. The picture quality is very good considering the price of the lens (I am sure that the the 70-200mm f4.0 IS would be better - just cannot afford it).
