Hi all,

First off, I apologise if this has been posted or is in the wrong section before but I tried searching and came up with nothing!

Being new to the world of digital photography and Canon lenses in particular I wonder if anyone can enlighten me on the differences between these 2 lenses.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS II Lens - £146.60 at Amazon.co.uk

Canon 55 - 250 / 4,0 - 5,6 IS USM 55 mm-250 mm Lens - £153.24 at Amazon.co.uk

From what I understand, USM lenses have quicker and quieter zooms than the normal lenses and also cost considerably more so am I missing something obvious here, like the differences between the two IS systems?

They are identical. The 55-250 IS does not come with USM either the mk1 or 2. The Market place seller is misleading with the title.

The only difference is the external cosmetics.

Appears to be described incorrectly as no Canon 55-250mm lens have USM.

I believe that they are the same optically, just the Mk II has a redesigned body.

As far as I can tell, the only difference is the ring with the zoom markings. Silver on the old one, black for the new one. Either way, it's a decent lens for the price!

Thank you very much for the help folks! I know which one to ask for as a Christmas pressie now! :)

Hi
I got one of these a couple of months back for taking squirrels on Brownsea Island, brilliant little lens when you can't afford the 300/400mm that you know you really want!
