Hiya chaps.

I'm going to have a look at one of these lenses today with possibility of buying it, bloke wants 110 for it 6 months old boxed in mint condition, only query is he's said its the is and not the is2, is there a great deal of difference in them?

Any replies asap would be appreciated as I'm going to look at 1pm :-)

Cheers, nick

purely cosmetic in that the mk11 is a cheaper manufacturing process
optically they are identical
so one could argue the mk1 is better constructed
it doesn't appear to make any difference to their value
and 110 is about the going rate
I have this very lens and for the money it is a belter

I think the II commands a higher price and the I is slightly cheaper
I've also heard that there are some refinements in the II version, couldn't quote the source though tbh

edit: had another look around, looks like most people consider the changes to be purely superficial
I'm interested in this lens myself as a cheap, lighter option that the huge lenses I have for holiday purposes etc
heard great things for performance vs price

For the price, the 55-250 IS is a cracking little lens. I've had mine for 3 years now (paid £149 for it new) & wont part with it. Give it good light & it gives some lovely shots

Some examples of what the lens can produce can be found HERE in the Kitesurfer & Jetski galleries. I took all of those shots using the 55-250IS & my Canon 50D

I've just been to have a look at it and needless to say I came away with it, managed to get it for £100 its got a jessops uv filter on as well, had a little play and shots look really sharp even at 250mm, chuffed with my purchase :-D looking forward to getting out and about with it, expect some photos soon!

149 grey 249 uk
flash camera had them at 119 once that was at the time I was selling one of mine so I only got 90 quid for it
flash camera are 149 now
good lens you won't be disappointed

I bought the same lens this week and took my first test shots with it today in the garden. I struggled to get it sharp to be honest, perhaps I should have increased the ISO to allow a faster shutter speed.

Here is the result from a quick 2 mins shooting a half dead flower in the garden:-

Maybe it's the luck of the draw but I haven't been too impressed with the photos I have been getting from this lens (mkII from Argos)

Great stuff, daughter has one and she gets some very nice shots with it. For her, it's a nice light weight lens aswell

Enjoy your new purchase :-)
