Hi All
I have been offered a 50mm macro EF f2.5 lens for £135
It is in good working order, optics excellent, but it is 23 years old. Does this represent value for money?
What could go wrong? AF motor burn-out perhaps? How long do they last? My oldest len is from 1992, and has a USM that seems to be perfectly fine, not sure about the old-style motors. I suppose that as a macro lens, I will be manual focussing a fair bit.
Should I go for it? Brand new is only £100 more is the dilemma I have. The other is that I don't really need it, it would just be handy to have out and about without the weight/size of my real macro lens which is a 1kg beast.
Thanks
Jonathan

I have one or two really old lenses and they seem as good as new.... I also have the 50mm f/2.5 and it is a cracking lens, sharp as anything.

It's the perfect little thing to have rattling around in the bottom of your bag on a "just in case" basis. Does it's quasi-macro role well and isn't half bad for portraits....£100 well spent IMHO.
