Yes
I went out shopping today and spotted a nice building in Chester. I lined up the camera and noticed the lens was set at 50mm so I decided to give the "Nifty Fifty" a whirl....Half clicked for the focus got the all clear and fire!........Nothing? I have had this with flat batteries but they were new so after some investigation I tried the 24-105mm and all was fine. Refited the 50mm and realise the AF has stopped working. In MF the camera fired fine. Turning the focus ring it felt rough and gritty as if the lens was full of sand, Which it aint!

So at £50-£60 for a new lens, is it worth getting this one fixed or just buy a new one?

This may or may not help you as I am a Nikon user. My Nikon kit zoom lens recently became stuck at 60mm, would zoom in or out. It hadn't been dropped, or really used much at all. It was out of warranty so I sent it back to Nikon who repaired it for £32. No parts were needed, that was just a bill for 15 minutes labour! My guess would be to bin the lens and get a new one!

Get a "brass & glass" manual focus lens and adapter.

Check the contacts on the lens for grease/dirt?

sounds like yours lasted longer than mine! the AF on my new 'nifty' lasted less than 20 shots!!!
do you mind if i ask where you got yours from?

we cant be the only people this has happened to?!

anyone else?

If Brocks has gone the same way as mine, then there is more life in a dodo than in the AF! manual is fine on mine though

My autofocus went on mine. So I just use manual. Not a problem. the focus was so slow anyway, so I'm no bothered. It still gives great quality results.

What's the shop called? May go for a look!

Camera Solutions Ltd

They may not be the cheapest, but yesterday was extraordinary, He checked the price of a 5D from Warehouse Express and said he'd undercut them by £50! thats the 5D, with a 17-85 IS lens for £1300 (IIRC).

Going back to the 50mm, I popped it on this morning and it was fine :shrug:
