Canon 50mm 1.4 or Sigma 50mm 1.4

Mark this lens is odd in its behaviour :cuckoo:. I am considering sending it for calibration but I also wonder if the lens design causes this behaviour. Findings suggest that it doesn't FF across all focusing distances so if adjustment is made wouldn't that just shift the FF issue to a different focus distance?

It would be great to know:
Has anyone had this lens calibrated to a 5Dc?
How was the lens after calibration?
What was Sigmas turn around time?

MPB are telling me sigma's turn around is currently 6-8 weeks. The last couple of lens they have sent in took 4 weeks. Last year sigam re chiped and serviced a flash for me in 5 days inc delvery door to door.

Last year they did my 70-200, it took them 6 weeks to only adjust the AF. Ive ended up skipping sending the 50 in for calibration as it means being without my main camera to long to get it done properly. Gonna get a refund and possibly go for 135 F2 L instead.

I have sent my sigma and body off for calibration.

sigma also sent me the following info:

"Sorry to hear you are experiencing problems with your Sigma lens.

If the resolution needs adjusting then unfortunately it will need to go to Japan which could take 6-8 weeks. If it is the focus and circuit which needs adjusting then this may be done within 2-3 weeks. Obviously until the lens has been tested by a technician we will not know what the issue is."

Intresting to know not all work is done in the uk.

Crikey Japan. I hope they sort the lens out for you Tristian. Please let us know how the calibration goes.

Took mine for a field test with the Chinese New Year shing dig in London. Have to say that the lens is very sharp to the point where I have decide to get used to it's odd behaviour. I'l post some of the picks up soon.

I got this from a friend who's working in canon, he bought it with staff price, about 450 USD. i would say, it is worth the money  the auto focus was accurate too.

As promised a couple of 100% crops from the siggy. First one a 1.4 and ISO 800.
