Canon 50D review

For those who haven't bought theirs yet :naughty: there's a review of the 50D in this week's Amateur Photographer. from a quick skim, they seem to think its a bit noisy at higher ISO's.

At this rate there should be a new 5D review in a month's time ....:)

Isn't AP actually "Nikon Weekly" ??

I'm wondering if they used the camera raw beta which people have been saying has very bad and noisy 50D support

Aperture won't recognise 50D RAW files yet, you need to download Lightroom 2.1 Release Candidate (beta) and ACR 4.6 (beta) if you want to use Adobe's offering.

Canon's own software bundled with the 50D of course can.

From reading elsewhere it seems that ALO (CF II-4) is now ON by default and it affects the RAW images (as displayed by DPP) too. It probably helps improve the apparent dynamic range at lower ISO's but is very likely to induce noise at higher ISO settings. I'm guessing that switching this OFF above ISO 1600 will reduce noise in the shadow regions.
