Yes
I have had a 50D on back order with W/E for a week now, & I have just tried Martins cameras & Calumet but they have no stock of the 50D.:suspect:

Does this mean they are being replaced?
Or is it just a general shortage from Canon?

I went to order one yesterday and had the same response as you, I'm beginning to think theres an update on the horizon so Im going to sit back and will wait.

The update has been announced hasn't it? The 7D? Or does that sit in between current model ranges?

I was waiting for the 40D replacement originally, but that appears to fall within the 7D. And I cant really afford it.

The 50D has only been out a year!

Agree that the 7d is the replacement , buy wayyyy to expensive IMO.

Ebuyer have a couple in stock, cracking price too. :)

makes perfect sense to me.

the 7D is coming out, so when it does the stock value of the 50D might fall, and they'd be stuck selling the 50D for a price below what they purchased it.

when the 7D is released and new wholesale prices emerge for the 50D stock should hit the shelves again. just my opinion

I wish they're brought out a 70D with a similar chassis but smaller MP rating on the sensor but with nice low light quality from larger photo nodes or whatever you call them
would have been interesting and right up my street

The 7D is not actually a replacement for the 50D that will be the 60D due out in early 2010 I believe!!

According to the product map, the semi-professional cameras are currently the 5D II, 7D at the top, and at the bottom, the 50d. Rumour has it that the 50d is slated for replacement in Feb

But then where does that leave the 60D, as the 7D appears to be the upgrade from the 50D? It's still a APS-C 1.6x sensor, but with 18MP and HD video. I really can't see where they would go with a 60D, or where it would fit. The 7D looks like an awesome bit of kit, but is way beyond my price range for the forseeable future.

Hi

I got my 50D from warehouse express about a month ago now - There was a huge backorder on them, but they (probably quite naughty) sold the last one they had at the store to me because I had cash waiting.

I got told that there was a LOT on backorder - the back orders out did their orders if that makes sense.

Just a popular camera I guess, and a popular retailer.

argos had some instock, but they were about £80 dearer than anywhere else (yesterday that was)

I was thinking about changing to a 50D but now with the release of the 7D I am not sure what to do... it looks like the 7D is a replacement for the 50D but its way to expensive.

Maybe it will drop in price when it hits the shops.. who knows..

but - a 60D? That might be worth waiting for - who knows

But then where does that leave the 60D, as the 7D appears to be the upgrade from the 50D? .

The 60d will be the upgrade to the 50d.
The 7d is an 'upgrade' to the 50d, but also contains many improvements which are likely to be reduced for the 60d.

Think about the 50d, this is in theory the next step from the 500d, but doesn't have as many 'features'. Because some of these features made it into the 7d, doesn't mean that it is a replacement.

40D is or shortly will be dropped. 50D continues for the moment, although it obviously will be at some stage. But as been said before, 7D is not that replacement.

According to their web site Jacobs has the 50D Body for £739 in stock.

Jacobs have some in stock, I was told that this morning as my 50D is going back to them for replacement.

7D isn't a replacement for the 50D. Its pitched at a higher audience.

I agree, but it's purely speculation from me.
it's a 5D market sector with a faster FPS and cropped sensor for sports and wildlife.
to compete with D300's and the like I think

the idea of a 60D appeals to me :)

Jacobs don't have any stock.
I rang them yesterday & was told they are on order.
Rang the same branch today (after seeing your post), and was told they had just sold the last one!!:nono:

That must be my replacement then... well hopefully.

if anyone wants a 1 month old 50D I'll sell you mine for £1k ;)

Why don't you wait a couple of weeks as there'll be some second hand 50D's on the forum when the 7D arrives ;)

Will save you a few bob for some additional goodies!

To be honest, they won't be that much cheaper, maybe £600-650.
When a new one with warranty is only £729.00.

MPB has one for £649.00, but I would rather pay the extra for a new one.;)

Thats what they say??:shake:
It may be worth confirming that with them?

I have a feeling that no one has any stock!!:suspect:

Redsnapper have them on their site if you can't wait - Look a tad more expensive than you are quoting. Have you tried Stuart in Digital Depot?

Thanks swag72, but Redsnapper are a little expensive compared to W/E.
And Digital Depot have no stock.

You go to the darkside mate and you'll be walking through the beacons on your own ;)

Sorry Neil, perhaps I was being a little hasty?

Well it finally arrived, & it was certainly worth the wait.

Its a superb bit of kit, feels really well built, the AF is just stunning & oooh that shutter sound.
Not really had time to play yet, but will give it a whirl at the football on Sunday.

My only regret is that I should have upgraded sooo sooner.

Spence

Thank gawd for that! :D

Great camera - I almost envy you your first few shots.
