No - you just download it to a Pc then follow the process to get it onto a CF card, the camera will then update from this CF card. see the link for full instructions.

What version of DPP are you guys running? According to that link it says I should install latest version 3.5.2 but my version is saying I got 3.6.0

"When updating to Firmware Version 1.0.6, please also update the Digital Photo Professional, Picture Style Editor, ZoomBrowser EX, and ImageBrowser software to the following versions or later."

I understand that Pete, but my question was what version of DPP are people running? I purchased my 50D a couple of weeks back and installed the software.What I cant work out is why Canon`s site is saying the latest is Version 3.5.2 when mine is showing this.

The website doesn't say that the latest version of DPP is 3.5.2, if you are going to download and install the latest 50D firmware, it advises you to upgrade to that version or later. Actually the latest version of DPP is 3.6.1
