For the last few months I've been getting the occasional 'error 20' message on my 50D. The error message tells me to either turn the camera off or to reinsert the battery. When i do either if these it works for a couple of frames then fails again. If i put a fresh battery if works for a few hundred frames. This error occurs with a 3rd party battery and a Canon brand battery. Has anyone else experienced this and is there any way of performing a permanent fix? I was thinking of taking it into Jacobs in Edinburgh - are they likely to be of any use?

Cheers

Is this with a specific lens? might be worth trying a different memory card too

You could also remove the battery for an hour or so (and the CF card) might also be worth cleaning the lens mount with a soft cloth or eraser

I'll try cleaning the lens mount - everything else you mentioned ive tried. Thanks though!

It happened first with my sigma 150 - 500 but it also happens with my 28mm and my 70-200mm f4.

If it's still under warranty get it in for repair now.

My 7D was throwing up Err20s which I ignored until it had a final, and fatal, Err40.

It's currently with Fixation awaiting a replacement circuit board.

Read this, then get it off for repair.

I thought my 5D2 had a 2 year warranty until I spoke to Canon. It's had a new rear screen and sensor. Goodness knows how much that would have cost.

Don't take the chance :D
