Hi
I have recently been using outdoor flash with the built in flash of my 50D.
So decided to take the plunge & upgrade to a 430exii.

Question is, can I get a wireless remote settup so I can use the built in flash aswell as the 430exii off camera at the same time??

You can, but normally you dont use both on and off camera flash at the same time...

If you do, you can buy an optical trigger these are about £10 which fit on the bottom of your flashgun and when the on camera flash goes it triggers the optical trigger...

The best method for off camera flash is to look at Flash in the pans (FITP) thread in the advertisers section for a radio trigger...
You get two parts, one the transmitter which fits in your hotshoe and the reciever which fits onto the flash... as these use radio signals these can be used outside, around corners etc...

Thanks very much for the info Mark.:)

I will check out the optical trigger idea, also the thread you pointed out as I also want to try some off camera flash pictures too...

The optical trigger won't work, as you can't disable the pre-flash on the 50D. In other words, the remote gun will fire off the pre-flash and will not sync properly.

The cheapest way to do it is with a radio trigger like the Yongnuo RF-602. FITP sells them for under £30 a set. Full manual only. Reliable method

The way Canon intended you to do it is with a master unit on the camera, ie an ST-E2 (£150) or a 580EXII gun which doubles as a master (£300). This retains full E-TTL auto flash control.
