Hello people :)

Last few weeks I was looking for the camera for our family. So far i thought the best choice for us would be Canon 500d.
Price is ok and also have a video option. I never become a real pro in photography so i would like to stay with cheapish gear at least at the start.

But thats not what i wanted to discuss about. I found a Canon 500d with lots of extras now my questions are.

1. Are these extras worth anything in this bundle ? I mean all together they look like you make a small saving but how is these "extras" quality and ?
2. Why this seller gives ONLY 3 months warranty for the "brand new" camera ? Or is it refurbished ones he is selling ?

Overall, what do you people think of that gear ?

Ebay link

Or maybe its better idea just to get a camera and lens kit 100 pounds cheaper ? That would be with 2y warranty but without any extras ...

So what do you think ?

Thanks in advance :)

It must be a grey import from Japan/US/Far east...so no Canon UK warranty.

All these extra's together might be worth £5 (least to me), I wouldn't go anywhere near it :)

Even the bag and tripod are so bad or extra battery ? :p

I really appreciate your comments here as like i said im more than rookie here ...

Nope, stay away, you will get much better value buying here second hand or new from a shop.

Plus on top, thats not a UK spec camera, is a US/Far East spec, so no warranty and will be harder to sell on if you wish to upgrade in the future.
The SD card is a no-name and I wouldnt trust my images on it, the filter is worthless, the wideangle/telephpto lenes arent lenses, just stupid things you screw on that will be crap, the flash doesnt look upto much, the battery might be ok, the tripods will be useless and the rest is a waste of time.

battery is not Canon, lenses are next to worthless, sd card is cheap non-branded, tripods similar.

all in all, yu are better buying what you need rather than a package like this

Thank you very much guys so far :)

Another camera i was talking before without extras is this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Canon-EOS-500...Cameras_DigitalCameras_JN&hash=item4aa27a8865

I presume its also far east version but comes with 2y UK ? warranty ...

This seems like again Seller only warranty...so Canon UK won't have anything to do with it. Google for this seller for any reviews if they have to see what kind of after sales service you could expect.

I like this bit from their T&C: "The service does not cover the following damage: cosmetic damage, damage due to acts of God, accident, misuse abuse or negligence."

Act of God...Now there is an opportunity to re-create that movie!

Check here for "good" sellers with good prices:

Thanks :)

Same time if i can see £50 savings in my pocket im not so strict with the name on the body as we know that these cameras are on the market with 3 different model names ... So far the last link i posted here has only good feedback and also 2y warranty which attracts me here :p

£50 won't be worth it if you have any problems and have to send it back to them, seriously. PM the member "Kerso" on here for a price, he's very good and cheap

You'll loose that £50 on top of usual deprectation too when you come to sell, and as has been said, the warranty is not with Canon, so who knows what the service will be like should something go wrong

Just discussed with my missus here, well she said shes not really into vid option, so maybe would be better to go for Canon 40d ?

Thats our budget ... not more than £500 but nice if a litl less :)

Does the £500 include lenses or just the camera?

You might find a 40D too big, so something like a 450D might be better. Stuck mine on ebay last week, it should fetch about £300.

You could get a 450D and a nice lens for your budget.

don't have one, but have used one and the 40D is very good.........

consider either 2/h via here (as oppsosed to the bay) or as mentioned before Kerso.......

I think the starter kit in that price range would be nice.
40d bodies go just around £400 mark ....
450d ... too old ? What ive heard that its a bit easier with 40d even when the body is slightly bigger ...

Now I wish i'd asked this question before I bought my camera. I bought one of these budles and alot of the stuff is cheap and nasty! You'll get it, and not too long after you'll be thinking, yeah, actually this stuff is crap, i wish i had'nt bought it now.

Its exactly what I did!

Best bet is to do your research, ask on here etc and make sure your 100% confident your getting the right thing. Photography is not cheap, dont go with something too good to be true

The 40D and 450D are more or less the same age,, both are very capable cameras. I only upgraded my 450D because Im used to and prefer a bigger camera. If you are used to your small pocket sized compact types, then lugging a 40D around will seem like carrying a load of bricks around with you all day and may actually stop you taking the camera out. The 450D is a lot lighter and you will be more likely to take it out.

Maybe you should handle some to find out, the 50D is about the same size and weight as the 40D, so you can play with a 50D in a shop to get a feel for size.

The 500/550D is more or less the same size and weight as a 450D too.

Back the original idea again.

Same time if people buying second hand gear, for example 450d it has no warranty at all and savings compared to new gear arn't very remarkable and then you on your own anyway.

Photography gear prices in Ireland are crazy, about 1/3 higher than in UK. So cheapest option here would be Argos at the moment, but theyr warranty covers the camera only for 1y and after that im on the same boat with second hand gear buyers. Or Canon Ireland has longer warranty for local market products ?
Local shops selling the 500d kit for around £700-800 where you get longer warranty i presume but not sure. So comparing the local prices if i get the Rebel or Kiss kit for 470 pounds delivered i cant see myself going wrong, at the end of the day its NEW camera comparing to second hand gear ...

If the cameras are all the same around the world just with different names on them, why canon wont help me out with geniue Rebel product when they all coming out from the same factory and carry the same specs ? Its not that i have cheap copy of they product ...

Sry my stupid questions and thoughts here.

Thanks
