Dear all,

I am contemplating my next body purchase and I am wondering what I am truly getting extra if I shell out the extra for a 60D over a 50D in real terms as I will not use video (although I do like the look of the swivel screen).

I have been considering buying a refurb (gamble I know) from the canon ebay outlet which would be seriously cheaper than a new 60D body.

What do you all think? (I currently have a 30D and 40D body)

Dear all,

I would go for 60D if the tilt screen is some use to you.

Whats the main use for the camera.

Do you feel limited by your current body in terms of its' performance? 40D to a 50D isn't a big enough difference to justify the upgrade in my opinion. And since you have no interest in using the 60D for video, I don't know if that's worth it either.

As you have a 40D it would be worth moving to 7D or staying with the 40D.

I dont think you will gain very much moving to the 50d or 60d unless you print very large photos or crop your pics a lot.

What glass do you have? the money might be better spent on lens.

on some of the reviews I read at the time the picture quality on the 40D was better than the 50D and the main benefit at the time IMHO was the lcd screen was better quality.
Like others would suggest you go 7D or try used 5D.

If you are convinced that you want a new camera maybe the 60D is the way to go.

I've read many 40/50D arguments and less than ecstatic 50D reviews so changing from a 40 to 50D might need careful thought and examination of shots to see if there is any positive improvement to justify the change. At least the 60D brings something new, that screen which may be very useful, and you get the benafit of a new product with a new warranty.

I have a mixture of glass but agree new lenses might give me new inspiration (I am drawn to the 24-105 and also a wide lens which I don't currently possess. I am probably looking for better performance at low light (less noise at higher ISO). I think I might let my 30D to free up a little money (although its a fantastic body and I'm torn!)

I also hear what you are say about the 50D so I might hold fire on that idea. Oh what to do!?

Thanks to all for your valuable comments. I have to say I am intreged by full frame so a 5D might be another option (I do a lot of casual family photos).

Any more comments gratefully received.
