Canon 50/1.4 cheap in Jessops

OH DEAR LOOKS LIKE THEY SUSSED THE MISTAKE

http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/12877/show.html

Price now £285 with a £13.50 saving, rather than the original £135 saving, does not look good for online orders, or anyone that still has one on reserve to collect.

It has taken them over a day to spot the mistake, usually when things start getting ordered by the bucket load companies notice quick and change it...

Will be interesting to see if anyone who's ordered for delivery will get theres, I reckon reserved in store will be fine as all paperwork will say £185

Going to be intresting to see if they still honour the proce people reserved them at. I reserved one yesterday but still undecided about wether to get one as ive only just sold my 50mm 1.8 as id bought a 17-50 2.8 instead.

But it and stick it on eBay, you should still make money

Why do I always miss these damn things! :(

Do the honourable thing, if you dont want it put the store name up here and offer the reservation to a TP Member, (You can just email them the collection code), as by reserving it and not collecting you have denied someone else the chance of getting one.

Like i put up just before though im still undecided, i could of quite easily just got it to sell for more so i dont see why your saying about doing the honurable thing when i stated an hour ago that i havent made up my mind??

Well, the price was correct & they let you order

Not sure on what grounds they can say no!

Mick

Doesn't really work like that with online orders - far too many mishaps in the past have basically made the online price as an 'offer to purchase' (or some BS like that), to which both parties then have to agree too. For the customer, this is obviously when you click buy and pay for the item. However, the retailer only implicitly agrees to the contract when they take money from your account, NOT when you get an order confirmation or similar.

Jessops will have undoubtedly seen the big spike in orders on the 1.4; but the fact is that they haven't reacted to all the in store collections - its more a case of whether they can fulfil all the online orders too. I'm a little pessimistic, but only purchased this on an opportunistic moment so not too worried if it doesn't pay off.

Will be interesting to see how the second hand market for 1.8s goes - wonder if they'll hit sub £50?

They won't honour it.

I had one reserved in Edinburgh and was going to collect it today, they've just phoned me to tell me it was mis-priced and they won't sell me it at £185.

Mate, gutted for you................

I bought a 3 year extended warranty for £30 with the lens. Wonder what will happen if I need to claim

Return the warranty ;)

I have phoned them and they are honouring it, it will just take a while to get to me cause they are nearly sold out everywhere, I spoke to the sales guy and gothim to double check with his manager yesterday evening. :)

Thanks. It's not a major let down, it was very much a 'Can't resist it at that price' purchase rather than a need to have.:D

It just means I've got more chance of persauding myself to get a faster/better everyday lens than my 17-85, which fits in much more with my needs.

Return the warranty ;)

It was based on the sale price though, so worst case scenario is I get £185.95 returned

Jessops warranty terms

"How Repair Protection Works:
If your product breaks down, simply call our dedicated product helpline on 08705 997799 and we will arrange for any work to be carried out. There are no expensive bills to pay as we normally settle any costs directly with the repairer.
If we decide not to, or we can't repair your equipment, we will replace it with a new product of the same or an equivalent specification. If your equipment was not new when you bought it, we may refund the original purchase price"

Reading this it seems they will have to repair/replace as it was new.

I had one reserved for collection as well, just got a phone call to say it's was mis-priced and can't be sold at this price....... Should have gone and collected it yesterday.

It was going to cost me about £15 in fuel to go and collect it so I placed an online order as well until I decided on which order to go with, doesn't matter now just had a second phone call as I was writing this, the online order has been cancelled as well! :'( :'( :'( :'(

Just had a call from Jessops - they are NOT honouring my order, and have another +300 calls to make. They alos lied in that they said that they hadn't sold any at the mis-priced £185.
I told them that's the last of my business.

I ordered one for delivery as the nearest collection one for me was about 100 mile round trip - they have just called me to say that the price was out by £100 on the website and the will either have to cancel the order or process it at the 'proper' (higher) price.

I did read the t&cs when I ordered as I thought that it was too good to be true and it is quite clear that the order is only accepted when the goods are despatched.

So, if you have managed to pick one up already, well done!

I guess the missed call from a number I didn't recognize must of been them! Thats twice...when I was looking to buy my 7d, their summer 09 catalogue clearly had a 7d + 17-85 + 70-300 IS USM for £1499 which once again they wouldn't honour!

I had a phone call this morning too. Nevermind.

and to think I nearly didn't go to collect it yesterday, thinking the "reservation" was safe for 3 days as indicated!

Sorry to those who missed out, often the case on miss-price deals...

I got a phone call earlier today cancelling my online order. Unfortunately there weren't any in stores near me, it would have been nice to get a 50/1.4 again (had one but sold it to get an ultrawide!) Ah well, the 50/1.8 is fine for now!

Sad snapper here like many has had the call from Jessops today stating Canon EF50mm 1.4 was a pricing error and they cannot honour the back order. The guy that rang me said he was calling over 300 customers to let them down. I should have checked the local area for stock and got one like you other lucky bods, well done for getting the bargin of the year. Some one at Jessops is going to get canned for that mistake.

Unhappy Chris

hmm - so by not leaving a phone number I might still be in with a chance then...................

OK, so maybe not, but I won't be holding my breath !

what is seen, cannot be unseen ! :(

I wish I knew when the fire was on + had the money. now I have the money, but there is no cheap f1.4 :(
