Hello. I am just about to buy my wife a Canon 450d. I know it comes with a decent lens as standard, but she also needs a decent zoom lens, something like a 28-200/300 or thereabouts, for wildlife photography in general, although I may use it as well for fast motorsport shots (drag racing in particular). I have looked at a few from Sigma and Tamron, but does anyone have any (sensible) recomendations please? Our budget for the zoom lens would be around £200. Many thanks.

may not exactly fit your brief but i bought the Canon 55-250 IS as my second lens after the kit lens....

overall its pretty good, and comments on this forum seem to support that, as well as wider reviews on the internet (PhotoPlus magazine gave it 92% this month, beating longer lenses from Tamron Sigma etc)

At f4-5.6 its by no means the fastest lens in the world, but I used it for motor racing relatively successfully -and overall have been impressed - its quite versitile really and a good place to start at around £170

A second vote for the 55-250, I also have the 55-250 and it pretty much lives on the camera getting more use than the 18-55 kit. I've produced some really good results with it.

Third vote for the EF-S50-250MM IS.
Not much else I can say apart that it's very good value for money :)

Ok, thanks everyone. I guess I will have to try a few and see what they are like.
