Any of you on here every used or know anything about Canon 450D's?

Been offer one second hand with a 18-55mm lens, 70-300mm lens and a flash gun as well...

Just trying options. Offered the above for alot cheaper than what a new camera is going to cost.

Im looking for my first dslr camera and im a complete newbie, looking something to learn with...

Cheers for any info...

How much is he offering just so we can make sure it's a deal.

The Canon 450D is a great camera and perfect for beginners, plus the lenses and flash you get would be great to help you learn :)

Hes talking around £320 for the whole lot.

i will be looking to mainly shoot motorcycle racing, is this kit the kind of thing im looking for for this?>#

Excellent starter camera. This is the one I have and my first DSLR. Seems like a fair deal depending on the condition.

What are flash guns used for?

Yea im looking a set up to use for watching bike racing the evens i go to regulary your no more than 100ft away from the bikes at any stage. So im looking a set up that i can learn with yet is good enough that i dont need to upgrade for a good while...

It's a great camera, though as mentioned the 70-300mm may not be quick enough for motorsport, and the flashgun will obviously be useless for that as well. Great price though, it's definitely a bargain at that price.

What are flash guns used for?

As you can probably guess, for lighting up poorly illuminated objects, in bad lighting conditions. Generally used indoors where you don't have a lot of natural light to keep everything bright. You can do a lot with them (such as off camera flash, bounce flash), but I'm by no means an expert so others can explain them better than I can.

It's a great camera to get started with and the kit lens is very good ( i only know about the IS version).
Sounds like a very good deal. One thing to note, imo, is the manual wasn't that great but browsing the forum will help you pick up pointers.

I use a 450D and £320 is a good price for the set up. I can't comment on the 70-300mm lens as I don't have one, but for that price it is a very good deal.

One thing to consider, the reason you want a fast shutter speed in high-action shots is to stop your images from being blurry.

'Fast' lenses (lenses with a low F-number) are expensive and it may be cheaper for you to consider getting a used Canon 550D and a 70-300mm (or 55-250mm) as you will able to use a higher ISO number and therefore a faster shutter speed.

I hope the above makes sense?

I had the 450d as my first camera and it code me £220 for the camera and kit lens, It's a good deal with a flash gun and 70-300 but you may be cheaper buying a used 450D body and a faster lens for motorcycle photography.

Or you could sell or swap the kit lens and 70-300 for a 70-200 (bit faster) ?

Correct, but I probably use mine more outdoors in bright, contrasty, conditions as a fill in light to reduce the shadows or even out the lighting if the subject is back lit.

I think that's a really good deal. I bought a 450D awhile ago from this site and I love it!

Yeah you'll need a faster lens for motorbikes sure but I never thought I'd want a telephoto lens when I bought my camera but I want one now.

What sort of lens would i be looking to shoot bikes then? what would be the best?

Thanks for all this advice folks.

That really depends on your budget. Like most things camera related, the more you can spend, the better equipment you can get.

MPB have them for £299 body only, so £320 with 2 lenses isnt bad at all

I use one (first dSLR as well) and have been using it for 20 months. It's a brilliant starter camera. Plenty of features as well so you won't grow out of it too quickly.
£320 for that bundle isn't too bad at all! As others have said the 70-300 isn't that good, but if you were to sell it and put money into a better lens then you would have a great setup.

Just to warn you.. it gets expensive quickly!! Even if you don't plan it.. :(

Great deal especially with a flash on top of all. Great for first DSLR, I've used Nikon D50 and Konica-Minolta Dynax 5D before I bought my 450D and I can surely say that the quality far better than the other 2 even with the kit lens.

Nice setup for a beginner but if you enjoy it you will soon be wanting to upgrade the lenses. One cheap upgrade is to change the 18-55 for the IS version.
