I have the kit lens and i am after a nice zoom now. 55-250 IS looks great as they can be had for a good price 2nd hand. What else should i consider around £150 ish, 2nd hand i guess?

Will be using it for family, hols etc.

For weight, portability and for complimenting the (18-55 IS) perfectly the (55-250 IS) is probably the best bet in that price range. The others available in that price bracket (tamron 70-300 and Sigma 70-300) dont really beat the Canon for IQ or value and dont have IS either, it really is a super lens for the price and not at all bulky. Go get it.

I think you may be spot on with the 55-250 for your budget.

The 55-250 is perfect for what you want, I have this lens to compliment my 18-55 kit lens on a 450d too. I also have the Tamron 70-300, it's a great lens for the money, Jessops are doing it for £99 at the moment, but the only downfall is no IS, and it's a bit bulkier than the 55-250.

Tammy 70-300 is fine for tripod use or xlnt light but no stabiliser limits it.
We bought our brand new 55-250s which are wonerful for £149 new, Camerabox or digigood I think.

I got the 55-250mm for xmas and its awesome! You can get it £150 brand new on ebay if you search around. I used hugosaleshop on ebay and it came next day in a sealed canon box works perfectly brand new for just £149

Can't beat it for that price! I did use an older version of the 75-300 and it was painful!
