If that's true, I think I'll have to grab a D300 :D

So is it every store do you think or just the new one?
I can't get on to the Jessops website :bang:

It's just New Oxford Street and there's only five available each day....still, if you can get there, it's well worth your while!

Wow I'd be up for one of those D300s! Where did you read 5 a day Moos3h? Can't find anything on jessops.com and read on another site that it was only Saturday

Totally short of cash, otherwise I'd head down there now & camp out until the morning. :(

Note also the 40D + 17-85mm IS for £424 on the second page of that PDF. The lens alone is worth nearly that!!

The cynic in me says that most of the D300's that are purchased will be on ebay within the day ;)

Shame, I'm going to count myself out as I'm not sure I can face the travel after work. If they were doing it online too? THEN I'd be tempted.

I wonder if their other shops, within the 10 mile radius, would price match?

If they were doing it online you'd have had about 15 seconds after that flyer appeared to get ahold of one

Gutted im so far away, would of snatched up another 40D as 'stunt' cam :(

I WANT A D300, I'm not camping outside the shop but I want one so so bad. I just hope they still have one left in the evening.

I had a spare afternoon in Central London today but tomorrow I'm at Center Parcs :'(

Good.
'Cos as you know, I've pushed my luck WAY beyond the barrier today :D

i'm sure they will, turn up just before closing and I bet they give you an extra 10% discount just to clinch the sale

But by the time staff have bought them, and they've told their mates, and uncles/aunties/cousins etc, and then they tell all their mates etc........

And then the greedy bastids who want to flog them on ebay for a profit buy the rest, there'll be none left for anyone else.

*Dies* I Just noticed this , so i thought id check out the Jessops website and the 450D I'd been looking at and the price has gone up by £30!, Thats allot for a 15 year old who saves his school dinner money!

(Apologies for the slight thread hijack)

I guarantee there'll be at least 5 people in the queue now, at midnight,

Phone the police at about 7am and say there are a group of potential terrorists (ie photographers) loitering in the street, then once everyone in the queue has been arrested nip in and buy one of the special offer cameras

It's a deal ;) In fact if you take a pair of glasses and a false moustache with you, then you can go back in five minutes later and then we can get two cameras

I sent my other half down this morning and she said the queue went around the block. I might go in later and slap the money on the counter for a D300 and see what they say. Got nothing to lose really.

as long as you slap £1100 on the counter i think they'll say yes :D

All, just joined this forum as wanted to express my annoyance at this offer. I have been a nikon user since i did my about the age of 12, and used them all the way through. I currently use a D70s and D200. I have used Jessops in London for some time as well as my local camera shop.

I got emailed this offer by Jessops as on the mailing list, and so got up slightly earlier than normal to go in on the way to work. I was at the store by 5.30am. there were at least 30 people already there. Without being too rude about this but i guarantee that most of the guys at the front of that queue had no interest in photography. I asked along the queue what they were all there for, they all send the cheap Nikon, i asked them what type of photos they wanted it for - "pictures and stuff".

Surely there must have been a better way to mark the opening of the store than this first come first served offer. If i see a brand new D300 on fleabay today i am sorely tempted to ruin the auction...

not that i'm bitter or anything....

If you wanted it that much you should have gone down there earlier, it's a publicity stunt, they're not interested in selling it to someone that's using it for artistic reasons they just want people queuing round the block.

If the ad said you have to bring a portfolio in before we'll sell it to you there wouldn't be much of a queue

yes, yes, i know that....all im getting across is that i dont think it rewards the genuine customers. guess that faceless capitalism for you. As a pubilicity stunt i guess its worked for me...............

You could always make yourself a placard and go and protest outside the new shop :naughty:

yeh...not far off that. Anyway, calming down a bit now. The other thing that made me larf is that the discounts appear to have come in at roughly the same time as another Nikon price rise. The 18-200 VR lens that was £499 last week at Jessops is now £549, however they will give you 10% off making the lens ...yep, just below £495. And yes, before anyone says it, i know these were Nikon enforced rises..

Jessops aren't bothered if it ends up on ebay, in fact it probably benefits them if the original owner doesn't pass the receipt on

It does annoy me that it’s the people that aren’t interested in photography go and buy the stuff to sell it on.

It’s the same with football tickets and concerts. Bugs the hell out of me but it will never change.

Didn’t they open at 8.30am this morning aswell when the website says 9am so surely the deals shouldn’t of started til 9am.

Oh, and I’m watching every single D300 on ebay to see how many new ones get listed after today. Never know, they might still be cheap, doubt it though.

They were selling them at £349 in the sale a few weeks ago ;)

To be honest i'd left well before 8.30, they may well have done. I did the maths a couple of times and everyone ahead was really only there for the D300. Even if the first 5 screwed up, or the 2nd five didnt have enough cash, or the 3rd five got 'tripped' up....you get my drift. Might have considered waiting for the D40 but that was only on the saturday. I left the front of the queue to the bun fight. I hope the staff actually came out and gave out a ticket to the guys in the front of the queue just for fairness, if that makes sense.

Be interesting to hear from anyone who succeeded, but as you say, im not sure they read these forums. I would genuinely like to be proven wrong though.

I have a feeling that there will be 5 D300’s on ebay after today, and another 5 on Sunday.

I know it wont solve anything but I’m gonna contact Jessops Head Office and have a little moan about their lack of support for their long term customers. I’m hoping the D300’s go on ebay so I can link them to the camera’s.

I guess I’ll have to save up the rest for a D300 and I wont be buying it from Jessops thats for sure.

Agreed. Be interesting to hear how you got on. I am also popping back at lunch to try out a best offer on the D300, or see if they can do anything. highly unlikely but you never know...

They are not in the slightest bit interested who profits from these offers, although these are bargain prices for the lucky ones, it is an even bigger bargain for Jessops for the publicity it has generated.
