Yes
Last night the wife knocked my 430EXII off the dining table accidentally, and in first sight it seemed ok. Flash fires, no obvious damage etc. Checking it again this morning before work I notice that the reflector doesn't move when you change the zoom. There is noise from the motor (which is louder than before I think) and a thin plate that can be seen on the left of the reflector moves slightly, but the reflector itself does not.

Two things.....am I right in thinking the reflector did move?? Secondly, does anyone know of a reputable Canon repairer, preferably in the midlands/Worcester area?

If anyone else has had the same issue, i'd be interested to hear what sort of repair costs you had to face, or if it may be a simple DIY job.

Cheers!

Go to Calumet in Birmingham or get in touch with Lehmanns of Stoke.

Reflector? do you the mean wide angle pull out?. This will not automatically jump out when you change the zoom, it is a manual process.

Thanks, I'll look into both of those.

By reflector I mean the internal bulb reflector, not the pull-out wide diffuser.

Yes it is supposed to move and it does make a noise.

Lehmanns get my vote... I've used them in the past with no problems and with good service! :)

Had another look over it last night an there's definately no noticeable movement back and forth, it shuffles up and down a fraction of a mm at the end of adjustment in each direction but that's it. It's certainly more noisy than it was previously too.

Lehmans and Fixation have both come back with quotes, Lehmans at £120 fixed cost, Fixation at £50 + parts and VAT.

I think it may be a job for the house insurance!
