Anyone got one of these? I have been asked by my company, to talk some photos at a exhibition stand we will setup in the NEC. He wants so photos of the salesmen demoing equipments. It will be petrol pumps and Till's.

I don’t have a flash at all at the mo, do you think this will be OK with my 1Ds & 24 - 105 Lens for the job?

Don’t want to take too much kit

I can get one for about £180

I dont know much about lighting, but would this thread not be better in the TalkLighting section?
I think it would get more replies from experienced people in that section

Hope that helps

Yeah, it will do the job. Its a good flash.

I would either buy a stupidly expensive off-camera cord from Canon or get one for about £15 from ebay so that you can get that flash away from the camera. While your at it, get a cheap diffuser from ebay and see if you can bounce the flash from a nearby (neutrally coloured) wall or ceiling to soften the light.

It will do the job fine, as said its a great flash.

Not so sure you would need a diffuser though, it has an inbuilt diffuser (of sorts) anyway.

The inbuilt diffuser is designed to widen the beam of light when you are shooting with a wide lens (14mm I think). Also, you aren't supposed to use bounce flash with the wide angle diffuser in place.

What a cheap diffuser does is not soften the flash (as it doesn't increase the apparent size of the flash) but it throws a small amount of light forward to your subject when using bounce flash.

This means the majority of light is bounced from a nearby wall or ceiling (and made soft due to its large size) whilst a small amount of light will hit the subject directly to create a sparkle or 'catchlight' in the eyes.

Thanks people, Looks like I found the best use of my 10% paypal code :)
