quick question looking at getting a new camera and saw a canon 40d. So read some reviews but it was saying the iso only went up to 800. if some1 could share their knowledge if they have one would be great.:)

The ISO goes from 100 to 1600 and then it has an extension that takes it up to 3200 but the noise is pretty horrid at that setting.

Better than anything canon have made since though ;)

Hi

I've a 40D and love it, would def recommend one without hesitation...

40D is still a great camera.

I'm not just saying that because I still have one. It's the reason I still have one.

I've shot at 1600 on mine with very useable images .

I wouldn't grumble about the noise even at 3200 ISO. This was shot raw and converted to JPEG in Lightroom using default settings for everything, with the exception of the sharpening mask which I set to a value of 40.

Full image resized to 800x533....

100% crop of an area with mixed tones and colours....

Sure, the pixels may be a bit noisy, but the PICTURE is perfectly usable. EXIF is intact if you want to check.

yes ive owned both at the same time, the 5d is about 1 stop better, just. the 40d is a great backup for the 5d, in some regards it is better, some worse, depends what you like and how you shoot, they are very comparible bodies.

Use my 40D more then my 1D because its a bit smaller love it.
