Now ive had this happen once before, I think I started a thread on it. But cant find it!

Anyway really want to get to the bottom of this, as its really frustrating, and the last thing I want to happen if iam out on an important shoot. The problem is I think that I changed something by accident, basically I couldn't change the ISO and couldn't change the focus points with the main small dial at the top(one you change with your index finger)

I could change the focus points, but only with the main dial on the rear of the camera. I also couldn't change the focus mode setting as I normally would. Sorry I cant really explain it better than that, I spent about an hour trying to resolve it last night, and now just turned the camera on and its back to normal. :bang:

Does anyone know what happened? :help:

Do you use a better grip with the camera?

If your camera was set on fully automatic then you won't be able to.

Yeah sounds like changed the mode

I tried changing the focus/ISO/focus mode on full manual/Av and Tv and none worked...

Sorry, should have read battery.

Anyhow, I would put blame on this first base on my experience. I had a grip with my 20D that started causing similar issues when attached. I found that turning the buttons on the grip off prevented the issue from occurring, although tbh not using a grip turned out to be a better way for me anyway.

Errr, ok. But iam pretty sure its not that. Its only a 3rd party one. You could well be correct-but iam just unsure. Thanks all the same.

I did have a browse through the 40D manual as I couldn't remember specifically...

The only other options are camera mode was set to something where you cannot change stuff with that wheel or there is a fault with the wheel. There are no settings anywhere that will prevent the wheel working other than that.

The battery grips can cause some pretty odd things to happen, as they are essentially wired into the same circuits on the camera that control the wheel/shutter. If it happens again, the off switch on the grip is a very quick test...

Rich, had the above problem occur yesterday and it freaked me out again! BUT yes your right it was the battery grip-not sure why but I quick off/on fixes it!

So THANKS! :)
