Hi/ Can anyone tell me how to do an over-ride select on the focusing point when in C1, C2, C3 programmes in my 40D? I use the focus point button to change it in Av, Tv etc, but when I am in C1, C2 or C3 personalised programmes, I get as a starting point the focus point I programmed it to, but when I press the focus point button to override the default and make a change, it does its own thing and seems to switch to all-points and then stays there.

One thing I found with C1 C2 or C3 is that while in those modes you can't stray away from the settings that are programmed in, on a temporary basis.

Now that is interesting... I can stray away on all the various settings... Av, Tv, metering, ISO, WB, etc, etc, no bother. Flick out of Cx and flick back and you have your original programme. It's probably my favourite improvement over my old 10D. The only thing I can't seem to get a temporary change on is focusing point. Any other 40D users care to add to this?

Aaaaah I may have got it compeltely wrong then. You're probaby right. I only dabbled with the C1/2/3 setting modes very briefly when i got the camera.

Er ........ on my 40D I can change anything, including focus points .........

Try a hard reset (battery out, small battery out, wait for 5, then out them back)

Worth a try.

Solved it! Turned out I had C.Fn III-3 set to 1, which just engaged auto point selection all the time unless you went to the joystick (which I never tried). All I needed to do was change it from 1 to 0 and now I have over-ride on the outside-right button.
