Yes
I have an EOS 400D at the mo but nipped into jessops today and had a play with both of the Canon and Nikon new offerings. Felt really superb in the hand etc..Price isnt really an issue although obviously i know that i will have to start a new collection of lenses if i opt for the Nikon.
Any advice?

Was the Nikon superior to the Canon? How many lenses do you have?

These are the things you have to consider if you decide to opt for the Nikon.

Probably its the lens question that is probably the governing factor.

Well yes, obviously the D300 will be better.

But it's nearly twice the price.......................and doesn't have TWICE the features.

I have a 40D, previously had a 400D and it's a good upgrade option. Love the 40D myself, and love Canon so would never switch to Nikon.

If money not an issuse then get yourself some L glass & you soon forget about Nikon ;)

Personally, I still think that the 40D is better in low light due to Digic 3.

Are you a left or right eye shooter. If left, maybe use Canon as left eye shooters can cause the focal point to move on Nikons with a nose or cheek - can be a serious issue for some in that you have to lock you focal point thus rendering 50 of them inactive!

Think about it.

Pete.

Gimme a break, dillusionals
If you dont have Canon Learner glass, D300 by a country mile
If you have Learner glass, D300 by a country mile.
Those are the choices d300 or D300
or 5D if you must..

Im a left eye shooter (Never entered my mind that people might be right eyed.) I used to have that problem occasionally on my D40X, but its still never happened on the D300. I think its because the screen is bigger, so the thumb pad is further across.

Yeah, back in the day film cameras with manual wind on were the designed with the right eye intended, hence the lever being on the right eye. I am a left eye shooter, I literally cannot shoot with my right eye.

I'm another left eye shooter.

I have to say that if I didn't have thousands invested in Canon glass, I'd be considering a D300 right now. On paper, it looks like a great camera. Canon really have to start fitting their better AF systems to other things than the 1-series

I'm a left eye shooter... I thought I was the only one! :D

D300 - £1060
40D - £685

I make it about 55% more, which, last time I looked, was 45% away from 100%

Of the two, the D300 is the better camera pound for pound going by the reviews I've read. It's a better camera than the D2xs but at the old D200 price point.

But that means nothing if you don't get on with the way it handles nor if you have invested significantly in C-word lenses.

Oh and I'm a left eyed Nikonian with a big conk and I have no trouble knocking the focus points on my D70s!
