Looks like the 40d rumours are gathering pace...:D

Canon just slopped-out an "EOS 40D" DSLR page onto their Hong Kong site. No specs or pictures of the unannounced camera but it's fair to say that we're looking at a followup to their 8.3 megapixel 30D. No surprise what with Canon's market share slumping due to stiff competition from the Sony A100, Nikon D80 and some cannibalization by their own EOS 400D / Rebel XTi. No specs yet, but don't be surprised to find at least a 10.2 megapixel sensor, anti-dust technology, DIGIC III processing and sensor changes for better performance at high ISO. Clicking through you'll find a big red "X" in place of the EOS 40D text. Now the tough choice: click the "read" link below and refresh until the onset of RSI, or kick back and chill -- the wolf's on it and we'll be with you di-rectly... or at least once the specs do finally break

looks like not buying the 30d was a wise move after all....

Been hoping for something like this - still like the 5D, but pricey while the 30D doesnt feel like it has enough new features to upgrade from a 350D, so if these rumours are true I may get one - goods headsup :thumbs:
 
i hope to get one too, i *nearly* bought a 30d, but felt the need to wait, so maybe that was the right choice...
 
Oooh I hope so, I'm in the market for a second body and was looking at the 30D but wondered if it would be replaced.
 
I am thinking about selling one of my Mark II n's and getting a 1.6 machine. This is interesting....
 
Well I'm glad I bought the 30D when I did back in September. Thanks to its BW modes I've learnt more about BW and love it more than ever. Dust doesn't bother me, the extra 2mp doesn't either, only better noise handling at ISO3200 would be nice.
 
I'd still be happy with a 30D I think (well for a while at least) With luck the 40D's arrival will herald a drop in 30D prices!

Spot on Pete, would ahve to agree .... Very glad I brought mine too.
 
No worries Ally.

Evaluating all of my kit, lens and options. One may go, may not. I have begun to want to go back to how I used to shoot and dont know if I need two N's but loathe selling if that makes sense.

well, rumours abound now...I believe its mostly clever marketing hype. happens every time, saw it all around the 30D, 5D, 350D and nikon's too, best to sit back, use what you got and once its all been released and used/abused by hundreds of peeps see what works and what doesn't, then make a decision...some people paid £2000+ for the 5D, its now possible to get one £1600 or less (ebay - canon refurbs...)

I want to be the first with a new topic, so I'm making a pre-emptive strike here for the day after the 40D come out.

When will the 50D be launched? :lol: :lol:
 
ive justbought a 30d you wont see nay dif in 2mp! it may have some new fancy stuff on it but is it the camera that makes a good photographer?????????

You are quite correct in saying this. The only problem is you too will eventually suffer of Upgraditis...

It is not curable but can be treated:thumbs: :bonk:
 
ive justup graded to the 30d!!!! i aint buying another new 1 justto keep up.ill stick with this for a few years and then upgrade.

having a 101 lens and a top notch camera will not make you the best photographer,it helps in different situations but it will no way make u better as the next person...... my upgraditis is due to being a sad and poor student unfortunitly so i have to do alot of 'Window shopping' :P

Quite simple really, surrender ALL means of finance to the wife...

If she takes an interest it could get ugly but at least obesity will be the least of your worries!!!:bonk:

there's a fly in that ointment - I'm a single chappie! No woman could compete with my babies (camera's for normal peope). The last one actually dared to leave the lens cap off the 50 when she borrowed the 30d. She lasted another day:annoyed:

Just forked out on the Expedition & and the Artic Butterfly - i keep telling myself each time 'thats all i need for now'. :'(

im currently using a 300d so an upgrade to a 40d(or a 30d, depending on whats new on the 40)will be a big step up for me, the camera is only a tool in the photographic process, but it doesnt hurt to have the latest one. The reason im pleased i havent already bought one is the price will drop as soon as the 40 emerges..
