Yes
! have a Canon 300D and a 350D,would you trade for a 40D or buy a better quality lens

I depends on what you want from your camera. I recently upgraded from a 300D to a 40D because I needed some features that were lacking on the 300D. If you really need some features on the 40D go for it, if the features on the 350 give you what you want go for the glass.

I find it hard to tell the difference between shots from my 350D and 40D image quality wise - so if it just a general all round good camera you want/need, then stay with what you have an invest in the glass. But if you need more shots per second of spot metering etc then go for the upgrade.

Personally I'd give the 40d a miss and go for the 450d, the sensor has more pixles and a less agressive AA filter, meaning you get slightly more detailed images. The 40d also has a bit of a reputation for focusing "issues". At the focus show in the NEC earlier this year the Canon techs I spoke to all prefered the 450 to the 40d.
Unless you need the higher frame per second rate I'd go for the 450 every time. Wayne

I was wondering similar.

I currently have a 350D, I'm getting a bit of money from doing some photo jobs, nothing major, but hopefully enough to fund an upgrade in the not too distant future.

I had a play with my mates 40D and I liked it, it felt much better than the 350D, but had heard of problems with the focus. I'm thinking of holding off and raising some more money and getting the 5D.

decisions decisions!!!

Focusing problems? Have had mine for 6 months now and it is a damn fine camera :) the 450D was a very odd little thing compared to the 40D at focus. I really wouldn't bother upgrading from a 350D to a 450D there just isn't enough to justify the cost in my opinion.

I was going to say much the same. The 40D is about as good as it gets on focussing (unless you want a 1Dxxx).
.. as far as I'm concerned there are NO problems with the focusing. It beats all the other Canon DSLRs i've owned with ease (I admit I've never had a 1Dxxx, but the 40D is my 3rd/4th  body).

I'd always spend money on glass instead of the body. It'll yield better results.

I'd read on another forum that there was a slight problem with the auto focus on the 40D, if that's not the case, then it might make the decision a bit easier!

I'm gonna head out for a day with my mate and his and see what I think!
