Hi there,

I brought my Eos 40D -my first DSLR- two months ago and still getting used to it.

In the last few weeks though I've noticed that when I select the upper AF point I get a red flare/ghost reflection above the point. It happens on both of my two lenses: 18-55mm and 50mm.

Any ideas?

post some example pics so we can see exactly what you mean

or do you only get the ghost when looking through the viewfinder?

Don't worry about it, it's just the focussing screen come slightly loose. The 40D has interchangeable focus screens, check your manual and you may be able to re-seat it without having to take it to a repair shop.

On another note, it doesnt actually make any difference so you could leave it

It's normal. I've yet to see a Canon body that doesn't do it to some extent - some more noticeable than others.

Thanks to all your responses.

No obvious marks on any pictures. The ghost only appears in the viewfinder when focusing.

Reassuring to know that others have had the same issues.

Cheers
