First of is there a official canon 40d owners thread?

Its only a quick question anyway, can someone tell me how to access the how flash control menu?

:)

You could try reading the manual ;)

Mine goes to page 196 n' all.

In setup menu two go to flash control. The setup menu is only accessible when you are out of the basic modes (go into TV, AV, M,P or A-DEP)

Thats it.

Iam being a right idiot here, do you just press menu? How many times?

Press menu then use the joystick controller (little toggle on the back) along until the middle of the set up menus.

Go into that and you will see the flash control option. What mode are you shooting with?

Tried on all the modes. You mean the option with the play icon in blue? Cant see flash control anywhere, may I need to update the firmware?

Also on a side note, how do you change the self timer mode?

It'll be in the manual as well (use the index to help you find the relevant page seeing as your manual appears to be different to the normal one).

Jimmy, you cant control the flash menu in any of the basic auto modes, thats why you cant find it. Have your left hand dial set to P, A, S, M or A-Dep, press the menu button and flash control is the final item under the yellow spanner with 2 dots tab.

For self timer, press the AF/Drive button on the top right of the camera and use the big wheel on the back to scroll through the different drive modes inc self timer 2 or 10.

I think my problem is because ive got the 400d. Not the 40d :bonk:

I seem to remember a camere strap and one of our lady members threads going this way some time back :gag:

Actually when you said the manual was light blue and white I had my suspicions as the 40d manual is purple as Simmotino said!

Never mind, dont feel embarrassed! It happens to us all, as you can see from Mitch's post above. Forum members will only remember it and tease you about it for another 2 years or so! ;)

you are joking right, read the manual

Would you believe that there people out there who do this before the camera even arrives?!!
:thinking::cuckoo:

Anyway, cant see anything about it in the manual other than the mode 'flash off' but using that you cant change the av or tv.

am i right by saying you can control the flash by holding a button in, then use the roller by the shutter button????

hold in aperture/exposure compentation button in then adjust with the main dial?????

I'm not sure the exact buttons, but have a look for Flash Exposure Compensation in your camer abook. This allows you to adjust the flash output but +/- 2 stops
