It arrived but only with 18-55 IS :'( the box says 17-85 HSM IS kit on it and it was sealed so I don't know how it got in there  but it is a pain cause I have to exchange it... if they have any left

That's not good.If your lucky someone may returns theirs and you get your swapped over, since they had all gone.
Imagine if they are all like that!

You might be able to negotiate a different price and keep the body & sell the 18-55IS if they don't have any to swap out. Could be worth speaking to the manager they are a clearance place so if they can sort it without the hassle of having the item back they might jump at the chance.

Has anyone else on here received theirs yet ?

Mine was meant to be delivered yesterday but the DHL website says it was out for delivery all day and at the end of the day, updated with 'Undelivered due to adverse weather'.

No idea about today as there is no further update !

Aw that's terrible. Bet you are gutted.
You not see if you could do a deal with them? Bit of cash back or something?

I am a bit gutted! Yeah, I was speaking to a friend and he says that it is their duty to provide me with the goods I ordered and that one alternative is that they offer me a refund, I can refuse that and tell them I want what I ordered however.
Hopefully like you said matt2matin they will just give in and do a deal to avoid all that hassle.
It must have been a problem at Canon's end though because the box was sealed, so in that case argos clearance has been given the cheaper lens in the first place and it would be in their interest to follow that up with canon because it meant they unwitting supplied the wrong lens to me. I dunno really lol someone explained it to me, I hope they just take the easy route :P

did the guys that ordered it get a dhl shipment tracking advice number emailed to them when they shipped the camera ?

I ordered it thursday and havent received anything yet.

Hi Gary,

Yes, I received a DHL shipment number within an Argos email the next day after ordering.

Hrm. Ordered it on Thursday also, not shipped yet. They do say that they ship within two working days for next day delivery so all things being equal they should ship Monday for a Tuesday delivery.

Unless...

DHL have not been collecting orders as they're backed up with deliveries because of inclement weather. (per spy)

or..

There is an issue with the items that they've only discovered after they've shipped a few and they're sitting on the subsequent shipments. (per willjones)

Time will tell.

I should say that I received mine today. It was delivered by some guy in a car although he did have the hand held touch screen device for signing :D

I haven't had a chance to use it in order to ensure it is all working but the box did contan the correct 17-85mm lens

With some relief I note that weekend overtime abounds at the Argos Clearance warehouse and they've shipped my order this afternoon.

Now, all I need is a flight to the UK to go and pick it up!

By sheer coincidence I also have one of those booked too.

mine arrived yesterday with the correct lens. Im absolutely thrilled to bits with it

Sent mine back today, back to searching the internet for another deal :(

Got mine back home for a proper play in the garden yesterday and I'm very chuffed. It feels like a significant step up from my 400D. Bit too early to form a proper impression as there are enough changes in the design and use for it all to be just a little bit unfamiliar.

Unlearning the three year habits of the 400D and getting to grips with the way the new camera works is bound to take a little time but for now a few things leap out. First thoughts...

  • The high frame rate when shooting birds on a bird feeder was impressive.
  • High 'zoom' during liveview for manual focus will pay dividends for macro and astro photography - both areas where I've suffered frustrations in the past.
  • The ability to change the AEB ordering to -,std,+ fixes a stupid issue with the 400D that always irritated me. I may have let out a minor yelp of delight when I found that.
  • Shutter actuation noise took me by surprise at first - it's a bit saucy! That and the combination of the size of the thing makes me feel like a different kind of photographer. It's all a bit more chunky and 'pro' looking/sounding/feeling.
  • the C1/C2/C3 functions will save me a ton of time and help mitigate the amount of potty mouthed expletives I spit forther every time I switch from shooting indoors/low-light to outdoors tele and forget to tweak one parameter or other
  • Auto ISO caught me by surprise. More so when I saw what it was picking for shooting outdoors.
  • EV changes. I may be missing a trick but is the only way to do it on the fly to switch the power switch to that third bent tick/hockey stick and then use the jog wheel? Really? This seems odd.

There's a ton of little things to learn. I'm intrigued by the 'highlight tone priority' for example, need to read up on that.

Of course, is it going to allow me to take better photographs? Well, that's not really down to the camera but it can't harm. Full marks to matt2martin for spotting the deal and starting this thread and to Argos for giving them away (almost!).

Tanks Adrian, always a pleasure. Wish I'd had enough spare cash to get one myself but I got the EF-s 60mm macro they had up a couple of days before these came on.

Still, can't complain too much it is a fantastic lens.

Gah. Did I miss out there? Can I ask how much they were?

In learning-curve news... I found out how to tweak the exposure without resorting to two handed fumbling with the mysterious hockey stick setting on the power switch. Huzzah!

'Fraid you did, they were a bit of a bargain - a couple of quid less than £250 delivered. I posted it up on here but they all went really, really quickly.

Looking back I should have got 10 or so and sold the rest for enough profit to make mine free :( - live and learn.

ahhh.. I'll get back to you there... as I've achieved it at the cost of the ability to select AF point (I'm using that button). I'm sure I've seen a setting that allows the joystick to amend that point somehow.

It'll only be a matter of time before I figure out how to make it all behave logically.

In the mean time, mine came with firmware 1.0.8, there's a 1.1.1 update here http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/eos40d/eos40d-firmware-e.html

and this programme may be useful. http://astrojargon.net/EOSInfo.aspx
