Hi, I have just come across something that I am not sure is a problem or not.
I have recently started shooting in full Manual mode But still use auto focus.
I take the picture and review it on the camera and it looks really sharp. I zoom in on the picture (on the camera) to make sure I have got the detail I want. The trouble is, when I zoom in more the detail looks out of focus. Can anyone advise please?:(

The autofocus will work exactly the same in all the different modes,
The camera screen isnt exactly HD so you wont see the best image,
Are you using the kit lens? The IS version or the non IS? The non IS isnt brilliant

How does it look on the pc? Can you post a sample to show?

Hi Sam, thank you for getting back to me. I am new at this game (as you can probably tell) and I am an old dog trying to learn new tricks. You are right I was using a Canon kit 90-300 non IS lens and you have probably answered my question as I also just purchased a new Canon 60D with the 17 - 85mm f4 IS lens and the same images I have taken are crisp right down to the fine detail (even zooming right in on the computer). Time to put the kit lenses in the skip I think. As for trying to upload a couple of the images, I have tried reducing the size but I keep getting told they are rejected due to the large size!!!!, never mind eh? Anyway I think the best thing I can do now is to reinvest in some more lenses. Thanks for your kind help though Sam, I appreciate you replying to me.

If its a long focal length what was your shutter speed? The longer the focal length the faster the shutter speed needs to be in order to avoid motion blur. At 90mm you should try for around 160th of a second or faster, at 300mm you should e around 500th of a sec

Cheers Sam, I will give it a go and get back to you. Thanks for your help.
