I put a post on here about thinking about upgrading my 400d for a 50d.

The thing is i was told by most to go for glass than the camera body so my question is, i have been looking at the Canon 100-400 L lens but would like to see some shots of this on my 400d body.

Anybody help with this, i.e does anybody have this combo????

I had this combo
It was my first lens after I bought my 400D
Taken with 400D 100-400 and 1.4x Kenko tc

1.4x Kenko tc???????
What is this?

Thats unreal i thought my camera body was mince too.

I am going to need to look into the lens then rather than the body.

I am blowen away at how good these shots are i still have heaps to learn to get that nice a shot mind you but i will be making some kind of purchase in the near future so i will do some research on this.

Thanks, keep the shot demo's coming though i would like to see it in other aspect.

1.4x Kenko tc???????
What is this?

It attaches between the body and lens to increase effective focal length by 1.4x in this case, so a 300mm lens would become 420mm, but you'd lose a stop of light. With the 100-400, at 400mm, the maximum aperture is usually 5.6, so you'd get 560mm at f/8. This will mean that your 400D will not autofocus with the 1.4x extender if using the lens at somewhere near 400mm..

Thanks:thinking::lol:

Thats the combination I use, also have a battery grip on the 400D to help with the balance.

I love this lens:love: and am perfectly happy with it on my 400d

Go for the lens. you know you want to:lol:

I've got the 450D, the succesor to the 400D and a 100-400L , and would highly recommend the lens. A TC 1.4 magnifies the image by the way :)

Wise decision GG. Don't under estimate the 400D, it's an excellent camera and very capable. I reckon you'll appreciate the added bulk of a battery grip when the 100-400mm is attached though ;)

im looking at lens not for now but a few months time, which would be best 70-200 is or the 100-400?

Im loving this lens more and more think my mind is made here.

Where would be the best place to buy customer and price wise?

Is this for real, what i mean is this how it looks on my body(camera i mean) it looks massive.lol

Kerso is a chap who sells canon gear amongst others from his base in Scotland.
Best bet is to drop him a pm asking for a price etc and he should be in touch

And yes it does look huge extended as per the pic, suprising how quick you get used to it though:thumbs:

So what im seeing in this pic is what the lens looks like on the body?

Not sure what you mean bt extended.

Also how do i pm him/find him?

Yeah, that's what it actually looks like! I want one now after seeing that! As you zoom, i.e. increase the focal range from 100 to 400mm rather than twisting a ring like on most lenses, it has a 'push/pull' mechanism. The more extended it is, the more zoom (I think?)

Chris

Oh and Kerso can be found here http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/member.php?u=754

I've just got this lens for crimbo so am new to using it with my 400D. Previously I was using the 70-200 f4 IS + Kenko 1.4 TC and the extra reach really is a bonus. I havent used the TC on the 100-400 as you lose auto focus but I will once I get more used to the feel of it.

Maybe it's the time of year and the poor light, but I am finding that the poor ISO handling of the 400D coupled with the narrower aperture of these lenses is a little restricting but on a good day the results are very good.

The one thing it has made me want now, is a better body ... I've started saving yet again (but don't tell her indoors ;))

Yeah it sure is a cracker by the looks of things. I,ve pm'd Kerso so i will wait on his reply.

Whats on? may go.
I had this lens but sold it and got the 70-200mm with 2x converter, Sorry i did it, But hey ho.:bang:

Well i.ve been having a think and im going to sell my bike to help fund the lens.

It just sits in the shed now anyway im always out and about with my camera so it makes sense to plundge the money towards my camera kit as i will get the joy of using it rather than a motorbike that sits about not getting ridden so i,ll keep you's posted.

You won`t be sorry, And you won`t hurt yourself either, Had my kneecap off when i came off my motorbike.:gag:

It's got to be Nikon!

Back on topic.........

This was with my 400D, the 100-400L and the canon 1.4 TC.

it is a good combination, but you may want a grip, to make the combo more managable.

Tara

Ive got the 100-400l too but use it with a canon 40D I love this lens. I bought this from Kerso too and was delighted with the service. I went to his house in Buckhaven in Fife, just under a hours drive from my house cos I was too impatient to wait for delivery :D He has no problem with you picking it up, saves on postage too. You'll love the lens.

oooh thats nasty, and also my other reason for the sale.
I had them years ago and bought this one only 6 months ago but my passion has gone as well as my balls.lol

went to jessops and tried the 100-400L and the 70-200 2.8L loved them both and i can really see myself using the extra reach come the summer months, so when i have the money its the 100-400L, altho the thing is huge and looks like a tank

time to save!!!
