I have just received a second chance offer on ebay for the mentioned camera, this will be my first dslr camera, the offer is for £130 body only with charger battery etc

Is there anything is should look out for with this camera or is there anything is should ask the seller (i.e. how many images have been captured)

it looks in good condition

cheers

gav

Does it have a lens? That's cheap for a decent 350D.

Mains things to ask would be the shutter count and if there is any dust on the sensor.

thanks for the replies, its for the body only as in no lenses. but £130 still seems a bit of a bargin.

thanks for that andy, i have sent those over before i commit to buying it

350D, my first digital, Daughter used and now my Granddaughter, still going strong with no probs, ask how many clicks? You will get a lens cheap enough, depends what you are going to use it for,

just had a message back from him

Hi Gav...I can't tell you how many times the shutter has been actuated. I have the image count set to auto-reset rather than continuous (setting it to continuous isn't an accurate count either), so to get a count would need a Canon technician. I'm strictly a hobbyist photographer - holidays etc., and I've had the camera from new so I wouldn't imagine I've taken more than approx 3000 shot in total - if that.

I've taken shots against a blank BG going through the f-stops, and at high f's there are a couple of dust spots. I find it hard to believe you'll find a Dslr at this price in "out of the box" condition. I've has the sensor cleaned a couple of times and regularly use a rocket blower.

Cheers

seems genuine enough to be honest, the camera is mostly going to be used to learn how to use it properly, landscape/scenery shots as well as automotive shots

EDIT: someone just beat me to it :( gutted. aah well keep looking

£130 is a steal! Treat yourself to a nice Sigma or Tamron 18-50 f2.8 type lens and for £350 ish you'd have a really nice set up with which to taken beautiful pictures.

what sort of figure would be considered a high shutter count for one of these camera's?

High shutter count would be about 100-150k I reckon

Good price. Bloody good little camera.
I recently bought one to mess about with. I seriously considered selling my 1D!

With a decent lens it produces darn good images.

have a look at this site people been posting at what number there shutter dies or if it is still going
one died at 1300 other still going over 100.000

http://www.olegkikin.com/shutterlife/canon_eos350d.htm

i think the average is about 50.00, but it could be more, could be less.
i have a 350d that i keep in my bag along with my 30d. if i took a guess id say its done in the region of 30.000

oh and dont worry about dust, you can sort that out yourself
even done at a store, dust wont take long to return

I don't think the shutter count is indicative of anything much. And you can't check it easily or accurately except on a few high end cameras - the general condition of the camera is a better guide IMHO.

Shutters seem to fail randomly (and rarely) at pretty much any age, on any camera, rather than wear out. Even the cheapest cameras are reckoned to be good for 50,000 exposures, most semi-pro models 150,000 and top end cameras 300,000. That's going some!

And all sensor get a bit dusty, even if you never change lenses or change them very carefully - lenses pump air in and out all the time. It's just a fact of DSLR life. I've never had to wet-clean a sensor in five years - just keep on top of it with a rocket blower.

cheers for the help guys, its much appreciated. i'm going to keep my eye out for one, there is plenty on egay

350d is ok, but if you can stretch to a 400d it has the self cleaning sensor. That makes a massive difference in my mind. I spent too much time chasing dust round mine

The 350D is a amazing camera going for such a cheap price at the moment. The dust issue won't be to bad, just be careful when changing lenses and give is a clean your self once every few months. A high shutter count would be 60,000 and over for a 350D which I believe only goes up to 100,000 before it packs in. The cost to replace the shutter wouldn't be worth replacing as it's cheaper just to buy another 350D.

"what are peoples thoughts on the 300d?"

I had one.

I prefer the handling of the xxD range and the 300D is only 6mp but if you don't crop your pictures too much you might be happy with one. I was quite happy with the image quality from mine and used it up to and including ISO 1600 but to be honest a 300D isn't as responsive as a more modern camera.

If you spot a good one at a good price it might make a good buy.
