Hello

If someone owns or has owned a Canon 350D, could they tell me if it's any good for the money. And the things that aren't that great on it.

Thanks.

I had one as my first SLR, only recently sold it on. Got some very nice pictures from it. Obviously the screens v. small compared to modern cameras, and it`s quite a small body.

I use to own one - my first dSLR. Its a cracking little camera. The screen is really small but once your used to it youll be fine. Other than that its a great camera to learn and develop yourself on!!

When you say "good for the money", how much are you talking about?

I sold mine on to a friend at a very, very cheap price. Twin lens kit, battery grip and camera - £200. (If it was a public sale, it would`ve been dearer than that!)

I've just upgraded from a 350D, which I still have and no doubt will still get used. An excellent little camera. You don't specify how much money, but I've got shots like this with the old 17-55 kit lens that came with it.

Yeah I sold mine for 270 quid with memory cards and extra batteries and the kit lens. Bargin camera to get into the dSLR world!!

I had one for my first dSLR - only got a 400D because the insurers wouldn't replace it like-for-like and I had to go for a current model when I got broken into.

It's a nice camera - I only just moved to a 40D but would have happily been using my 350D until now.

Still got mine and love it! See no reason to change as it does exactly what I want it to do AND what I want to do! I have upgraded the lenses though to a 18-55mm IS and a 55-250mm IS and has improved pictures no end!.

What I mean by this, is if the camera is good value for money.

For the price you can pick the 350 up for its crackin value!!

Yes!
You may struggle to get a new one now, but there are plenty of used ones out there. Prices seem to range £125 for body + kit lens, to £250 with extras. Some good bargains to be had! Have a look on the forum classifides.

i still use a Canon 350D... all the pics on my flickr have been taken with it. It's a great wee camera, glad i bought it.

Maybe we could start a 350d thread?

Theres one for sale NOW on the forum HERE

I have to echo the others in this thread, I have a 350D and it's a very good camera and can get some amazing pictures especially with a reasonable lens.

I recently upgraded to a 50D but I still have the 350D for now although I think I will have to sell it to put the money towards more glass.

The LCD is rather samll but I only noticed that once I had started using the 50.

Totally agree with the other posters the 350D is a cracking camera to start DSLR at and at the prices you can pick up used ones now you cant go wrong!!

My DSLR history is 350D-40D-7D!!

For me the 350D represents the point where a decent DSLR became an affordable reality; and was what got me into digital photography.

A cracking little camera and should be very good value for money used; providing you check all the usual.

I eventually upgraded to a 40D on account of the better AF with fast lenses and a few other things, although for a starter camera you can't go wrong

I use one, but I'm already feeling the need for more. It's a great starter body, but it depends on what you want it for. As has already been said it lacks a liveview screen (useful if you're using old manual lenses like me or have to get into some tight corners. It's not brilliant at high iso, but lovely at low iso settings. It's small and light (plus or minus depending on person) too.

All the shots in my Flickr are taken with it. :)

The way I read your comment, that came across as if you don't know Bob. ;)

I don't think there's a less spiteful person here.

Yup, i'm new around here really. I don't know Bob at all. Making comments about "ego driven upgrades" wasn't nice at all tbh. I'm not sure how that was meant to be a positive comment, if i got the wrong end of the stick then.

ended up selling that for £215 on fleabay!

but great little camera. I would suggest to the OP to try and pick up a body only as the kit lens is fairly limited, and it will be cheaper this way.

had one for a couple of years
liked it a lot. only sold it on because I was upgrading to a 40D
I've got some nice pics from mine so yes, if you want to get into DSLR territory, the 350D is not a bad choice
also it uses CF cards, which I prefer to SD cards in DSLR cameras

Bought my 350D in 2006, it has served me well and I see no need to change it.
As for the kit lens, it is a great little performer if used within it's limitations, like any other lens it has it's good and bad points. After 3 years I am still learning what this lens is capable of, and I am often suprised at the sharpness of some pictures I take.

I do find though that a decent lens hood for it makes a difference, I use the one from my 55-250, it does vignette at 18mm but that's a small price to pay.

If you doubt this lens abilities take a look at this thread
