I've only got an (elderly IBM microdrive!) 1gb card and as I now shoot in raw only, need to buy another card.

I'm a relative 'newbie' to buying kit and am unsure which/what to buy - type 1 / type II

I read a post somewhere (not on this site) that the 350D doesnt accept larger capacity cards, but lots of the selling sites says it does! I cant afford a 16gb but would like to stretch to maybe a 4 or 8.

You can pay the earth or peanuts it appears - I know its all down to speed - but I dont understand enough to buy something OK but not over spec for the 350D.

Anyone got any advice?

Don't worry about type 1 or type 2 you can only get one size of Compact flash card nowadays. The type 2 slot was designed for microdrives anyway.

Go for a mid priced card. No point in getting a "fast" one as the 350 may not be able to transfer files at the full speed these cards can deliver.

I would go for multiple cards anyway rather than one big one. If a card fails, and they do , although very rarely, you still have a back up card(s).

Looking at the Rob Galbraith CF card comparison database, there doesn't seem to much advantage between the SanDisk Ultra ll and Extreme lll models when used in a 350D. So save money and go for the slightly slower option. The same goes for Lexar cards as well.

You can check out card performance yourself if you like, here's the link
