Canon 30D displaying "error 99"

My Canon 30D is displaying the message "error 99". I've tried:

wiping the lens contacts;
attaching a different lens;
removing the lens;
using a different CF card;
removing the CF card;
removing the battery for two hours;
lifting then replacing the mirror.

None of those things have worked. Any other common problems I should look at before sending it for repair/throwing away?
 
Have you removed the date/time backup battery as well as the main battery? It only needs to be for a few seconds, not two hours. It's inside the main battery compartment. Page 40 of the manual shows the position.
 
I hadn't, but I just tried it. Still not working. Thanks for the suggestion though.
 
Try removing the lens and clean the contacts with a pencil rubber :thumbs:.
