Yes
Just wandering what people no about this lens!
I've read reviews saying its very good also that the non is is slightly sharper! At 300mm!!
How heavy is it?
Any pictures that people may have would be good to see!
!thanks

Weight - Pretty light for such a long lensd (way lighter than the 70-200)
I had the 300 f4L IS and it was Very sharp.

You probably don't need to see images - It's a professional quality lens and is superb and sharp - Nothing more need be said other than what are you using it for as that is what determines suitablity. There's a gazillion images here and around the web you can see with a search.

My first ever real prime and it turned me.. fantastic lens.... its quite light as well.

The 300 f4 IS is a great lens, very versatile, takes the TC very well. Great for sport and wildlife and with a minimum focusing distance of 1.5m some insect stuff too.

It was my 1st L lens and although I now use the 500 f4 for my wildlife I'll never part with the 300 unless I get the 2.8

Well that's all very positive! I'd be using it for wildlife and airshows! Maybe the odd surfing shot!
I have a 150-500 and find it very bulky and clumsy to carry about! Like the idea of this lens and don't think I'd miss the length!!

FWIW I was using a Sigma 50-500 before I got the 300 and the 300 was/is so much better. Sharper, faster focusing, lighter. If you're not sure why not rent one? You'll probably end up buying it!

I had the Canon 100-400 L IS before, and swapped for the 300 L IS with no regrets. The 300 gives better image quality and is lighter and easier to carry. I rarely miss having the zoom as I often used at at the longest focal length anyway.

I've had both the IS and non-IS versions of this lens. The non had to go when I realised what a wobbler I was but it was razor sharp when supported.
I bought the IS to take the place of a disappointing 100-400 before going on a wildlife holiday. I'd read how good it was with 1.4x extender and the reports were true but in its prime form it's a superb lens for large insect macros and similar shots due to its close mfd.

You'd have to prise mine from my cold dead fingers but a 2.8 Mk2 might revive me!

Great lens, was my main sport / aviation lens until I upgraded last year to the bigger brother. The f4 works very well with the canon 1.4x TC, but you do need the light to get the best from that combo.

So this should be my next question! Would this be a good match to a 60d?

For action photography, the canon 60D a good camera, my 20D took great images (shutter just packed up), the 60s auto focus system not on par with the 7D, just the same as the 1D knocks the socks off the 7D (auto focus), however if you don't use it as a machine gun (fps), rather compose your shots then technique should overcome any limitations.

The only downside with the newer camera's is, you need better quality lenses to resolve the larger number of mp's manufactures are squeezing onto their sensors. The 300mm f4 would be a good partner for your 60D

Thanks Pete you've been most helpful!!! Big thumbs

Here's a shot from my canon 5d mk2 + canon 300mm F4 L IS
The lens is an amazing piece of glass and you would'nt regret getting one

I love mine
Just need my 7D and 5D mkii and all my lenses calibrated and it should be even better

Even with a lot of scratches all over the front element and being dropped
